There’s several categories of things going on contributing to a lot of it.
Steroids, coke, pain killers, and downers are the four major things I can tell.
Steroid use over an extended period of time appears to cause an enlarged heart which eventually fails.
Cocaine use damages the heart and increases the risk of it failing.
Abuse of pain killers causes these guys to push their body well past its tolerances and leave them permanently damaged, if not also jonesing for more painkillers. The lengths they go to get these end up causing legal trouble which resulted in suicides rather than face jail time.
With downers and muscle relaxers, they get a tolerance to them and start taking more until they OD and have to be kept from choking on their own puke.
The steroids alone caused a major period from 1997 on (Brian Pillman) when active and retired wrestlers were dropping dead of heart issues. The biggest of these would probably be Eddy Guerrero while he was still a top performer.

Not to mention the busy schedule

It kind of goes hand in hand.
Most athletes and bodybuilders can cycle off when they aren’t competing. Wrestlers don’t have that option barring recovery period from injury.

Sad stuff, Kerry Von Erich was one of the best.

Not really he basically had zero wrestling skills . He would just punch a guy or body slam the and then use the claw... plus the last part of his career he was held up because he cut half of his foot off in a motorcycle wreck... that caused him major depression as well as the drugs he was doing....

The reason they didn’t do much was that they were too zonked out to remember anything, hence why they had simple finishes in their territory.
Jim Cornette has talked about how they went from complicated and elaborate finishes in Mid-South and Memphis to doing simple stuff in World Class because the fans weren’t used to the elaborate stuff, thanks to the boys, so why make it hard for yourself.

That Chris Adams - Jimmy Garvin storyline was great.

Kerry von Ehrich and JYD were my all time favorites.
The 80’s are overrated for a lot of things, but not wrestling. Best era. At least it was to me.

Very sad. I think their actual family name was Atkinson. Fritz, David, Kevin, Kerry, Chris, and one other one. I recall staying up late on Sunday nights watching World Class Championship Wrestling. Kevin is the only one still living. Last I heard he was living in Hawaii.

Adkisson. I lived in Texas for a bit in the early 80s. Was living there when David died in Japan. All were talented and charismatic. They really had lightning in a bottle with the Von Erich- Freebird feud. In those days entrance music wasn’t something everyone had. When the first notes of “Freebird” or “Tom Sawyee” hit, the crowd would go nuts.

Yep. Good times back then. I don't watch it anymore, but I was a big time wrestling fan when I was a kid. My bro-in-law met Michael Hayes on a plane in Atlanta and said he was a pretty genuine guy. I never realized how big those guys were until I got older and looked them up. Terry Gordy was massive. He's another one you can add to the list of early deaths.

Kerry had the goat entrance song of all time.

I remember his as the Texas Tornado. Dude was huge. Apparently he didn't lose part of his foot from the motorcycle accident but lost it because he started wresting again before it was healed and fricked it up worse and that's what caused the amputation.

Yes. The Von Erichs and JYD.
Here's some WCCW Von Erich Freebird footage from '84. I probably watched this with my brother on a 13" black and white set on a UHF channel.
