All of Colorado is not unreasonably high. Cost of living that is.
But all the places deemed hip and cool, and college towns like Boulder and Ft. Collins are gonna be sky high because people want to be there. In little sleepy Golden the cost of living has skyrocketed since the hipsters and micro breweries have found it and have crowded the shite out of it. And the big fish small pond city council loves the revenue.

Denver is the same. High rise living spaces going up errywhere and no sign of slowing down.

I may retire off the grid but I'll have to live in or near a decent sized city while I'm working. Pretty much the only place my job exists.

Well, yeah it is. I'm trying to get there within a year but it's kind of turning me off price wise. The land prices are ridiculous. Like I said, even in BFE places like Ouray, Silverton, etc. All off grid land. I'll get there but with a bad attitude. I just want to go hike, pan for gold and drink whiskey. I don't ask fo

a lot of the old timers from these areas have been moving to Utah, Wyoming, and Montana from what I gather. They used to be in the middle of nowhere but with developments popping up everywhere its like they are being ran out. If i were to move back to CO, somewhere near CO Springs or Ft. Collins would be ideal. more centrally located, I would consider Idaho Springs area.

It becomes more affordable if you look at some of the outer areas like Fruita and Pallisade.

I would only want to live on the Western slope on CO. Front range is too overpopulated and too expensive.

If you ever decide to pull the trigger let me know. There is pretty much no area on the Western slope that I haven't explored and I have good friends all across the slope.

I would be perfectly fine living along the cost in Mississippi or Alabama

I've done some online browsing around the area north of the Great Sand Dunes around Crestone. It's a lot less per acre but also doesn't have much of the natural resources I would want (like a creek and timber). But, there is a bunch for sale close to the ridge at pretty cheap prices.

I've had my eye on a piece of land for a few years now. Unless you're a local you wouldn't know it was there or for sale. It is full of Aspen trees with a crystal clear Creek running through it. It leads up to some amazing mountain top lakes and some world class snowmobiling in the winter. I keep holding out hope nobody buys it before I'm ready to retire.

There's also some amazing land you can buy on the backside of Battlement Mesa if go through rifle into collbran. Big time hunting area. But you'll need a snow plow attachment on that route because the plows don't run it.

If you've ever been in the area it's east of Rifle Falls.

I don't dislike the coast by any means but I want out of the heat. The PNW probably has my ideal weather and terrain.

The people were a bit of an adjustment for me when I spent a few summers there though
