I think you have to have a pretty low cost vehicle to make any money with this and a low threshold. I've seen them advertise at $18 a hour. Must mean most people average about 12-14 a hour- operating costs of fuel, overhead, wear/tear.

It just seems like a losing gig in this town. You'd have to drive a paid off hybrid to see any return.

I promise people smarter than you have done the math and think it is the opposite of a "losing gig" in this town. Uber is wildly successful in every city its been in so far. Even ones that are much bigger and more spread out than BR.

Is it easy for your girlfriend to find a female driver? I am trying to recall how many I have had...and I think I have only had 2 female drivers.

I'm checking Uber right now. "No car is available." What's the point of this if nobody ever drives. Seems about the same as Yellow Cab.

It is just starting...

I posted my Uber bill from Monday night like 3 times in this thread and the total was $4.58. It's such a joke that this loser keeps lying about the $5 minimum!

Why does this even matter? Anywhere that would cost less than $5 I would likely walk.

If I can get home from the bars for less than $20 Im happy. From what I've been told I will be golden from downtown or Tigerland with Uber... Yellow Cab would sometimes make it for under that and sometimes not... They weren't very consistent.

Looks like all the cabbies are getting really rustled today.

I not only hope you lose your job, but that uber doesn't hire you either.

She has had rare success. Usually only goes through a couple drivers just in case there is a woman near by. But definitely more than cabs. I see lots of Vandy and Belmont students doing this and Nashville crime is so low I'm sure more women feel safe enough to drive for them.

Goodness. Where do you live?

ETA: I've been an avid YC user for a long time now, and I am pumped about Uber.

I'm not exactly sure about that. What does it cost Uber to set up shop here. Pretty much nothing. I just don't think there with be a market demand to consistently have a constant influx of passengers to support a mass group of drivers.

I bet $12.

And it won't change unless its a game weekend with surge pricing. If other people ride with you, you aren't charged extra and it gets REALLY cheap to split.

Right around the corner from Sammys off Starring.

Going from downtown I had one driver charge me just at $20 but I tipped him up to $25 I believe.

You are in for a surprise. The drivers don't have to work when they don't want to.

And students are going to be ALL over this. Its cheap enough for them and other students will be driving them.
