The term “lady killer”

I was at the hardware store just now with my son and the older check out lady is gushing over his charming good looks that he got from me.
She’s going on and on about his eyes and smile when finally I just pat him on the head and say, “he’s gonna be a lady killa one day” as she handed me my receipt. Well the look on her face was of absolute disgust when I said that. I’m sure she thought I meant he’s going to kill women when he’s older and that’s not at all what I meant.
I smiled and let out a little laugh when I noticed her reaction, which probably made the situation in her mind even worse. Is that term no longer used or something or is it because she was an older lady?
