I bet if you told the judge you were apart of a gay couple you would have had a better chance. No proff needed, so just say it.

From what we are being told now, is that there is no appeals process and that there is nothing we can do.

Yep, it's his sister in law. Sounds about right. Democrats already want to allow the murder of newborn infants, makes sense that they wouldn't have any care about the well-being of a six month old.

If the system was serious about adoption overall, they wouldn't make babies a commodity. Get real. The OP "can't afford" to adopt. Think about that. Want to discuss human trafficking? This is HT hiding in plain sight. Think anyone bothers to march or make cute memes about legal baby sales?

Almost exact situation a close friend is going through right now.
Parents are meth addicts, etc and DCFS says get ready for baby to go back. Maternal grandmother has it together but does not want infant because she is already raising her daughter's 12 year old.
System is messed up big time. Really horrible stuff and not close to being in the best interest of the child.
Keeping you in prayers over the situation.

Here's the thing. I can't sell my kidney for profit but I can sell a baby to what could be a highest bidder situation. We all agree on that? Now. The States usually get leave behind children or so it seems. Criminal parents of all sorts. But premiere adoption agencies? They price good people like the OP out.
Let's think about this for a minute. Abortion? Selling children? Profiteering by each is quite odd.

The sad part of this is that the meth head family really doesn't care about the child. It's about yanking around the courts and sticking it to "the man".

Its unfortunate, but the courts are strange. Even when something is obvious to everyone involved, they will rule in favor of letting the family hang themselves first. What I mean by that is the judge probably knows this isn't the right place for the kid but they will rule in favor of the kid being with biological family. The courts would rather rule that way, let the bio family fail and the kid be taken again ( if not worse) then rule they were unfit.
No judge wants their rulings appealed and thrown out. Which there would have been grounds for appeal based on bio family wanting the child.
Its very sad and I feel sorry for everyone involved. I wish you and your wife all the luck in the world.

You got bad advice to not attend that hearing. You may need to file a civil petition to get a different judge. I would see a local lawyer.

We adopted a new born in South Carolina 23 months ago so we initially had the same fears as I am sure you and your wife had. Fortunately some states are super strong in supporting adoptions and adoptive parents and some states are pro-birth parents even if they are complete pieces of shite.
Not a lawyer so no advice. Just wanted to say you guys definitely didn't deserve it and neither does that baby. That baby hit the lottery with you 2 only to have some POS judge intervene. Be strong for your wife because there is no doubt this was a soul crushing blow.
You guys wishes to adopt will come true. Hang in there.

In Lake Charles area, Evelyn Oubre has very successfully fought for adopting parents in this sort of circumstance. I don't know about where you are... She's not the cheapest, but she knows her stuff and won't feed you a line of BS if she doesn't think you stand a chance.
