But the incident shows how humans may still be better equipped to handle some complex driving scenarios where the rules of the road shouldn't necessarily apply.

Maybe in some scenarios, until the AI gets better. But that doesn't discredit the dependability of self-driving cars, especially as it compares to humans.

Self-driving cars don't get distracted, they don't get tired, they don't rush, or become angry. They are far more safe and reliable than humans.

Right, self-driving cars will be better in 99 percent of situations, but let's get hung up on the 1 percent.

The benefits are so huge, I don't think most people even fathom it.

From DWIs, to traffic tickets, to parking tickets, to car insurance, to the complete absence of traffic, etc.

yall love this subject but who is gonna pay for it?

Uhhh pretty much everyone. I absolutely love driving and love cars, but only a retard would believe that driverless cars wouldn't be more practical, economical and overall desirable for the vast vast majority of the population.

Uber is a major POS. Waymo from google has gone over 600,000 miles last year with no issues. I imagine tesla's self driving platform will be as good or better with all the data they're being fed back on a daily basis. Uber is a shite company with a shite leader in kalanick who has had countless situations show the public just how big a POS he is from yelling at his own uber driver to stealing tesla secrets.

But one has to wonder whether a human driver, approaching the busy intersection while the light was turning yellow, may have slowed down

Nah. A human would have sped up on the yellow and made it through ahead of the careless left turning woman.

That's so Gravy Chambers.

The robot car is probably well insured.
