The Problem With Calling Women 'Females'

For as long as I can remember, I've been immediately skeptical of men who use the word "female" to describe women. Before I was able to put my finger on what exactly bothered me about their use of the word, I simply relied on historical record: The men I liked and respected weren't running around talking about females this, females that.
For many who use the word, I'm sure it seems innocuous. If you listen closely to the howling winds of patriarchy, you can make out their cries: Why are women making such a big deal about one word? Aren't there more important issues, like rape? I don't mean anything negative by it. It's just a different way of saying "women."

Okay. There are two different sexes. Male and female. WTF is the problem?
Posted on 5/15/16 at 3:02 pm to trom83
The only time I use it is with the word "fine". As in "There are some fine females in the SEC".

Only a female would write such a whiney article.

The older I get, the more I realize that some people just need dumb shite to pretend to be upset about.
This is one of the stupidest things i've ever read and I read the OT a lot.

The correct word is Bitches.

This is easy to explain. If you want to include all ages it is more encompassing to say it as "female" because "girl" would be objectionable to grown women and "woman" would not apply to those under the age of adulthood.
The idea that every damn thing has to have an insidious subtext points to a laughable lack of perceptive wisdom.

So, she'd rather be called woMAN instead of feMALE.
OK, we still win.

Which is why I always go with "ladies". Females just sounds weird outside of scientific language. Women and girls have age-related connotations. If you want to be safe say ladies. I'm no fricking PC SJW, I just want to not get in trouble with HR.

I agree with he portion quoted. I've always considered it a placeholder for "bitches," and I've noticed it seems to be a black thing and related to hip hop.
Downvote the duck out of me, I don't care.

I'm basically the same way, but it sucks that there tends to be a fine line between common courtesy/decency and the political correct BS.
I don't have any issue with "females", but I also realize that it is almost universally used in some sort of objectifying way or in a tone that is condescending. I think most here would say the same if they really thought about it.

Yep, but this place is full of woman-haters, so I don't expect this to be a popular opinion.
