Then all of the sudden a hand slipped over his mouth and grabbed him tight. The solider whispered in his ear he was there to rescue him and that he needed to hold tight. He said a few minutes later Charlie was quite. The unit took him to an evac and they got out. He claims they were SEALs that rescued him, however, now I question if they were DELTA and just like using SEAL as their call sign.
Neither, during that era was most likely Air Force Para-rescue

The boat guys (SWIC, I think they are called) train out at Stennis. Most of them are guys that washed out of BUDS. I'm almost positive that they all believe they are real SEALS. The douche within each of them is unbelievable.
Boat teams used to get a lot of BUD/s washouts, but they have their own indoc and training pipeline now. Definitely not a fallback job for SEAL candidates who didn't make it. You pick BUD/s or SWCC and stick with it.

Could have been MACV SOG as well

What's up EA6B? Haven't seen you since 370 thread.
In all honesty, I've seen seals on the boat. They stay to themselves. EoD on the other hand are the "louder" group. Fallon NV has some training grounds for SpecWar. Small base when Airwing isn't in town. That's when the SpecWar guys come out. The story someone posted about the fisherman on Dam Neck base is totally believe able. Certain portions of Dam Neck are off limits at random arse times. You find yourself walking around and are totally alone, be certain someone will "escort" you out the area.

Was with a colleague a few months ago at the airport, he was on a nuclear sub for several years, had a seal sit next to us so the stories were flowing(from one side, not the seal). Basically said the same thing. They would pick them up in the middle of the night in the middle of nowhere, would drop them off in another location in the middle of nowhere. They would be dead silent the whole time

I answered you're question about Houston in the other thread. You know any of the guys there?
Sorry, yes a few. There is also a unit at Ellington too.

I don't think so pal. Here is just one good example of why what he said was probably true.

Thomas Norris served with extraordinary distinction as a Navy SEAL on two tours of duty in Vietnam. He rescued two downed Air Force officers on separate and daring night missions amid overwhelming enemy forces.
LT Norris persevered in his repeated night sorties to find and rescue the American aviators, demonstrating the greatest courage and commitment Lt Norris was medically retired due to severe head injuries sustained when he was shot in the face during a combat mission six months later. Norris was rescued by fellow SEAL Michael Thornton, who received the Medal of Honor for his actions. Each had the pleasure of attending the other’s Congressional Medal of Honor ceremony at the White House.

What do the Army Ranger’s specialize in?
Are they used just to maintain perimeters in hot landing zones?

My understanding is elite light infantry for more traditional functions, but it wouldn't surprise me if there were some batt guys on this site who could give you a real answer.

A guy from my home town was MACV-SOG. After that he became a mercenary in Africa and spent years fighting in the bush wars on whichever side would pay him. I think he's a big game guide now. I've never met him, but a lot of older folks knew him.

I hear there are guys like that right now in Afghanistan working black ops. I had a buddy of mine has a brother who was SF in Nam. He still has connections. The buddy of mine had his son deploy to Afghanistan. His brother had a number of guy to call if his son were to be captured running his missions. This kid served outside the wire a good bit. He was on a group that patrolled the roads and cleared the way for transportation runs.
Side note: The kid keep his personal knife razor sharp in case he got caught and they used his knife to cut his own head off.

Nah man. Carrier guy. Airdale.
Edit: it was always a fun day on the boat when the EOD guys brought their toys out their CON-X to clean/calibrate. They would actually answer questions and such.
Seals would do their shite, pack-up and leave. It was eerie man. Weird how focused and efficient they did things.
