The consensus I got was his team is going to Afghanistan.
With all the troops pulling out we are using special forces more often.

I never got why Navy EOD got so much love.

Had a few SEALS in my jump class at airborne school. Not sure WTF they were even doing there but these dudes were bad mofos. They had already finished BUDS and were physical specimens.
They would finish training in the afternoon and then head out to drink all night. Come rolling in at 3/4 in the morning and "get up" with the rest of us at 4:30 to run PT. They would smoke everyone like it was nothing. I was totally in awe of these guys cuz I just THOUGHT I was in good shape.

Between Vietnam and when we went to war in the Middle East, the Navy never reduced it's EOD training like the Army did, and they also had an extensive Electronic Warfare dept as well. Army completely dropped EW until recently.

I worked with Navy EOD for a few weeks in late 2004 Iraq. That's exactly why I made that comment.

The story someone posted about the fisherman on Dam Neck base is totally believable. Certain portions of Dam Neck are off limits at random arse times. You find yourself walking around and are totally alone, be certain someone will "escort" you out the area.
I spent quite a bit of time on Dam Neck & Oceana. I was stationed on a ship out of NOB. When we were in OIF/OEF I remember going down in the well deck and talking to the LCU guys. One that I spent some time talking to was a GMC who had a trident pin.

No.
Only SF man I ever knew was my ex girlfriends dad. He was a Green Beret who retired around 98 as a Two star General. Most interesting man I have ever met.
Several items he had intrigued me.
1. Several tiny ceramic frogs taken from Noriega's Panama compound. He was the Brig of the 82nd Airborne during the invasion/extraction. Apparently, Noriega had a frog fetish.
2. Enlarged photo of him, Schwarkopf and Cheney looking over a field map in the desert somewhere in Riyahd. He was the forward commander for Desert Storm. Told me some interesting stories of the logistical cluster frick that first few weeks in Riyhad was.
3. Inside a safe, he kept two diamond studded Rolex watches gifted to him with the Saudi Royal Family emblem. After retiring from the army, he was employed as a consultant to the Royal Family to do something in regards to helping their military. He was still doing that when she and I dated in 2005.
He had a nice home on Choctawatchee Bay in Florida then...and I presume still does. One night, he invited a former CIA friend of his over to dinner. That guy had written a book and my GFs dad wrote the forward. This particular guy was supposedly the head CIA guy who coordinated intel with his French counterparts and pursued Carlos the Jackal until he was apprehended.
Most interesting man I have known. His daughter dumped me after 8 months to re-assume her proper station in life.....which entailed a lot more money than I had.

Col Reb""I had a teacher in high school who was a green beret.. He uses to walk around with a long wooden stick and poke u if he thought u were sleeping or not paying attention.. I said coach don't make me beat u up and he replied I remember just enough of the special forces to get me killed
And no dirty jokes about him poking his students with his long wooden stick""
Coach Carnes? You must be a preppy as well.
