Is that a complaint or an observation? Because for spans that size, you better hope it gives a small bit under those loads. That's how bridges work!

Because of???
Fear??? Umm.. ok.. Fear of??
- being hit by traffic? Ok, I am with ya! Wise fear.
- chance of collapse? Can't be that.
- too busy to do any bridge standing?
- seen better bridges in the quad?
If the bridge was closed, and you could buy a $2 ticket to the Independence Day fireworks show, viewed from the bridge, would you?

A catwalk spans the entire bridge underneath the paved roadway. If you are stupid, brave, drunk, acrobatic and willing to trespass it can be accessed. Lots of graffiti up there.

And this was supposed to be a bypass around BR 50yrs ago. But, the legislature moved it to downtown for their convenience !!!!!! Would have went between Brusly and Addis, then tie into I-10 at Highland.

Cool demo of how a cantilever bridge works, for those who don't know.

Not in any way doubting you, but in the scenario you mentioned, what was the federal solution to carry I-10 across the river?
- a new-new bridge built in the 70s?
- continue bypassing on US-190?
- tunnels and ferries?

One of my family pets was accidentally set free on that bridge in the early 70s. The cat used to sleep up in the fender wells of my Dad’s old Impala, and one morning as he crossed the bridge, Dad checked the mirror and saw the cat tumbling down the lane behind him.

They’ve prob spent more on environmental studies than it cost to build that thing.

The entire structure shakes like a SOB. I’ve climbed to the catwalks and walked to the mid point of the bridge a dozen or so times. I have pictures from up there.

I’m all of the above. The catwalk only goes to the midpoint. I’m not sure if they have one from the Port Allen side or not but they definitely do not connect. You can’t walk from one side to the other.

They were taken with a disposable camera 25 years ago so I’d have to get them scanned to post them. I can do that though but I’ll have to revisit this thread next week when I’m at my parents.
