There is a similar (although much smaller) cutout that puts Phenix City, Alabama, in the Eastern Time Zone.

I flew over it on my birthday.

I left on the 20th from LAX (11:30 pm), my birthday hit at 12:01AM, a few hours later (after crossing the line) it was the 22nd.

In short, I celebrated my birthday by sleeping through the entire day (8-9 hours give or take).

I did land in Fiji at 5AM on the 22nd, so that was cool.

I also went “backwater” rafting in New Zealand, flew out from Auckland that same day. Then, landed in Honolulu “before I left (on the clock)” from Auckland. In Hawaii I went from the airport to the hotel, then went surfing.

TLDR

Thanks to the International Dateline, I...
-went blackwater rafting in New Zealand AND
-went surfing in Hawaii (same day).

ETA

It was also the birthday for baw on the trip that day. So he got to do all of that on his birthday.
