a peer-reviewed study published by Nature this week asserts that this perceived moral decay is just an illusion.

Why do you think me saying we could have saved all those poor black kids pain by returning them home is "non sequitur?"

Every evil beyond 1865 could have been eliminated in this country (as race is our original sin) by returning people from whence they came.

Why is that bothersome? Its a solution to your problem.

We could become more moral by returning people to the lands in which they were snatched.

Exactly.

Shenanigans aren't bad shenanigans when they are done for the "moral" reasons.

The discussion is on if morality has declined over time. The argument submitted is that, no, we haven't "declined" in morality since the days of legally holding humans as labor property and sexual prisoners and/or holding them as 2nd class citizens and murdering them with state impunity. Instead, it's been a staggering INCLINE in societal morality.

it has not, nor has it improved.

it changes due to shifting social ideals. Its a false dichotomy.

So, one might say….

Moral decline is an illusion?

OK, this is just some pure argument from relativism you are making?

I know, the horror. But god was just peachy when the master was raping 12 year olds. And here I thought we cared about pedo stuff.

I do, you don't.

I'm not in your tribe.

So you're basically saying morality doesn't exist because its always shifting based on current ideals?

In a nutshell.

And we falsely judge yesterdays standards by changing values.

When did you turn so nasty and bitter, dude? I thought you had your shite sorted out and were living life not embittered.

I could just say "frick you" for accusing me of such stupid shite.

But I'd rather engage constructively. I have no idea what "tribe" you think I'm in, but do you really find this to be a good use of your time? You're a middle-aged man in Alaska who's been through some shite. And you're spending precious time on a Saturday telling people they promote pedophilia?

I want better for you.

Why is that nasty and bitter?

You have a different idea of morality than I do.

Is that some kind of moral dilemma for you? Jesus christ you melt down about anything..

Do you want me just to agree with you so you can feel better about yourself?

I can respect that, but I don't agree.

I think certain big item things are inherently immoral. I'm not religious but think 10 commandment type things.

The rest just shifts with time.

"Thou shalt not kill."

I can personally think of several times its moral to kill.

Sure you can't look at it in a vacuum. Nothing is absolute.

But you can't convince me that randomly killing someone for no reason isn't immoral.
