Anyone know specifically if the spot at the corner of Joor and Hooper is still dry?

Will, any worries about oak alley, legacy hills etc...with backwater flooding? 74 and bluff look ok now.

My neighbor is a civil engineer and he has his concerns about water coming to 74.

Last I heard Water is still rising. They hopped a ride down the street to higher ground in a friends jeep.

If you don't have something high off the ground don't chance it. If you do just stay on the sidewalks maybe.

It's bad. Worse than I thought

That's not good. Would it be today or tonight if it happens?

They just raised the projected crest at Port Vincent a foot to 17.5.

I 10 eastbound won't be open much longer. I'm watching the traffic cam (I-10 at bluff Rd) and it's slowly going up. Down to one lane eastbound now.

If you have to get out of BR via I-10 I would go now

This has been the issue for tons of people. I just don't comprehend the desire to sit in a home when you'll be stuck for hours if you don't leave now. Where is the upside in that decision? There is only downside.

As long as you don't have water in the house itself, better to be in your own home instead of some shelter. You can protect it from potential looters (of which there have been some) and it may be uncomfortable, but so is being packed in a school gym with a thousand other people.

You risk the water getting higher than you expect and having to swim for it, but it's a rational decision not to go, if you have reason to believe the water won't get that high.

I'm not recommending anybody do that, just trying to explain the thought process.

Thanks. So that's somewhat good news, right?

Yes it is for those folks. Granted, not out of the woods and I haven't lived there for years. I grew up at a time when I would call Oak Alley "Uncle Mickey's Land" and my dad cut down cypress from the old chicken coops that were located there.

It was always low, but I think those two neighborhoods being built up should see minimal problems.

The broken window fallacy.

Only applies when the money is coming from disposable income. That will happen in many cases, but there will also be a huge influx of insurance and federal dollars to the area. In short, there is no way to accurately tell the net impact until it is all said and done.

Heavy rains falling directly over the Amite in Denham may stretch out the cresting - would make backwater flooding go further than normal.

seems like they are using celtic studios as a shelter

They are and there are a lot of people just hanging outside the store.

I heard on the radio though that the backflow is heading into the Airline at I-12 area. I also saw an unofficial backflow map on Facebook that shows potential flooding into Old Goodwood, but I can't find anything by a legit media outlet.
