The DKE closure at LSU is going to stay ugly for a while.

I do not think the local alumni President did anything but guarantee an impossible road for DKE to return by shattering relations with the national alumni folks. One would think having attended such a high-end law school he would know better.

Don't get me wrong. If you pledge DKE at LSU and complain about the hazing it is like someone who starts smoking in 2019 and complains about their lung cancer. You cannot claim you did not know what was going to happen. You signed up for it.
But to send an email such as that was equally ill advised.

I am not a fan but DKE has that reputation and it is akin to agreeing to walk across hot coals and then complaining about the burns. Not my concern.

From looking at the guy's website, if that's the best they can do as alumni President, the dekes have fallen on hard times.

This is just stupid.
Back in my day, the frat I was in just had us drink a ton. And it wasn't hazing, we were all happy to drink up.
They had gotten in trouble a year before, when they made pledges wear dresses to a bar and there was an incident so they stopped that, but they didn't do any physical hazing.
I do think the jock fraternity was a tad physically abusive. With both workouts and making the pledges craft their paddles.

Why is this even news?
None of this is really anyone's business but DKE's. It's a private organization, why does anyone care what they do or don't do to each other? If one individual wants to press criminal charges against another, go for it. There are beatings, assaults, wife beatings, murders, and more every day that don't get half as much press as a bunch of college kids having fun that may occasionally get a little out of hand.
That anti-greek nonsense is really more about envy, class warfare, jealousy, and voyeurism. For a generally conservative/libertarian board, this place gets Bernie Sander's level liberal when frats are brought up.

The way to haze is to convince the pledges they are going to be branded. Tell them anyone that wants to quit can leave now. And when it comes to the “branding”: stick them with an ice cube.

Cant handle it then go join the glee club.
I know there's an anti-fraternity movement happening here, but many clubs do some kind of hazing. This is the kind of things that bite supporters of such movements in the butt eventually, showing their hypocrisy when in their own yard.
