The Carmax extended warranty they offer

Anyone have any experience with buying this? I suspect it is a rip off but the thought of being covered for everything up to $150K miles is enticing in case something ever goes wrong...

I've always heard Carmax is a ripoff. Have you done your due diligence on the price of the car? Also, there are tons of places to get extended warranties. You don't have to get them through the dealership. READ THE FINE PRINT.

Aftermarket warranties are a huge PITA. I wouldn't advise getting one

Carmax is already breaking it off in you don't give em any more money

CarMax sells mostly rentals, and that would be my last resort if I had to buy a car.

Yeah, its a little higher than I would have liked to spend on it but I have been searching for a very specific car (mileage, interior/exterior colors, features, clean carfax, etc.) for awhile and its the 1st one in about a year that checked off every box.

I have no knowledge of their extended warranty. That being said, most extended warranty's are pure unadulterated garbage.

You're prob right and I'm leaning towards NO.

Depends on the vehicle. CarMax sells some higher end cars (Mercedes, BMW, Audi, Land Rover etc) that cost a lot to service. Google Doug Demuro CarMax Land Rover and read his articles.

If you are going to buy an extended warranty I would suggest LDS or buy the manufacturers warranty GMPP, Chrysler, Honda etc..

I agree that a extended warranty is generally not a good investment, but the amount of money involved was not worth worrying about. I was able to get a CarMax 100K warranty that added 18 bucks a month to the note on a 48 month loan, my wife spends that every other day on coffee.

We bought it on the van. If the power doors mess up it is worth the cost of the warranty to have that fixed.

Your wife spends over 50 bucks a week in coffee?
Get that in check
Get that in check

I'm not even sure what "$150K miles" means.
