you support the murder of American troops that fight for your freedom
Sad!

They weren’t fighting for mine nor my ancestors’ freedom. They were actively fighting against it.

Your idol supported white supremacy, rape of women, and death to native Americans. Sad. What an awful person

Furthermore, the women that were raped and murdered and the children that were murdered were not enemy combatants.
How many non-combatants were killed and maimed by the 8th and 20th air forces in Germany and Japan?
You don't even now what you're talking about. Sherman begged the civil authorities of Atlanta to get the non-combatants out of the way.
Gentlemen,
I have your letter of the 11th, in the nature of a petition to revoke my orders removing all the inhabitants from Atlanta. I have read it carefully, and give full credit to your statements of the distress that will be occasioned, any yet shall not revoke my orders, because they were not designed to meet the humanities of the case, but to prepare for the future struggles in which millions of good people outside of Atlanta have a deep interest. We must have Peace, not only in Atlanta, but in All America. To secure this, we must stop the war that now desolates our once happy and favored country. To stop war, we must defeat the rebel armies which are now arrayed against the laws and Constitution that all must respect and obey. To defeat those armies, we must prepare the way to reach them in their recesses, provided with the arms and instruments which enable us to accomplish our purpose. Now I know the vindictive nature of our enemy, that we may have many years of military operations from this quarter; and, therefore, deem it wise and prudent to prepare in time. The use of Atlanta for warlike purposes is inconsistent with its character as a home for families. There will be no manufactures, commerce, or agriculture here, for the maintenance of families, and sooner or later want will compel the inhabitants to go. Why no go now, when all the arrangements are completed for the transfer, instead of waiting till the plunging shot of contending armies will renew the scenes of the past month?
...
Now you must go, and take with you the old and feeble, feed and nurse them, and build for them, in more quiet places, proper habitations to shield them against the (wea)ther until the mad passions of men cool down, and allow the Union and (pe)ace once more to settle over your old homes at Atlanta. Yrs., in haste,
W.T. Sherman
You really should read this letter
And how many non-combatants in Georgia were raped and murdered by Confederate deserters, escaped slaves and other southern opportunists and criminals that followed in the wake of Sherman's army?

What’s your beef with Sherman anyway? Did he kill your great grand pappy or something

Sherman and Sheridan later implemented a similar strategy to defeat the plains Indians by exterminating the buffalo and depriving the Indians of their food source.
Sherman prosecuted the war with extreme zeal but he opposed the Radical Republicans and favored a lenient Reconstruction policy. When LSU reopened he donated books from his own collection for the library.
Sherman and his opponent in the Atlanta campaign, Joseph E Johnston, were lifelong friends and Johnston served as an honorary pallbearer at Sherman's funeral.
Sherman's brother, John, was a Senator from Ohio, best known for authoring the Sherman Anti Trust Act. When the war ended, some in Washington feared Sherman would march there with his army and install he and his brother as dictators. Such fears obviously did not materialize.

Can you point to any law on the books that forbid the south from seceding?

Don’t know, don’t care. None of those were fellow countrymen.

Was that a referendum, just needing >50%? Who was eligible to vote? If they wanted to sever ties, why didn't they just GTFO?
What about all the patriots in the South who were against secession? Have you read the Confederate Constitution? That document spit in the face of liberty.

So strange how quickly the DC leviathan forgot the whole reason this nation came about.

The South didn't even give Lincoln a chance. They seceded before he was even inaugurated, and fired on the US Army within 40 days afterward. Why did they leave before he even took office?

Yeah, Section 8: The Congress shall have power to suppress insurrections.
I'm a citizen of the United State of America. The state of Louisiana can't strip that from me and force me from my home.

They tried, the U.S. government wouldn’t allow it.

I’m sure that the south would’ve had no problem allowing them to leave.
quote:

Much of it was almost word for word with the US Constitution.

Like, "All men are created equal"?
The US government didn’t even believe this.

He wasn’t even in most of the southern states ballots.

At the Academy I was not considered a good soldier, for at no time was I selected for any office, but remained a private throughout the whole four years. Then, as now, neatness in dress and form, with a strict conformity to the rules, were the qualifications required for office, and I suppose I was found not to excel in any of these.

Sherman got his reputation by doing things that other leaders were too human to do. Things like targeting citizens and leaving a wake of destruction, rape, and pillaging everything of value. After he was done in the South, he turned his eyes toward genocide against the Indians. He killed almost all the buffalo to starve them out, had diseased blankets and meat shipped into their villages to kill them. He's not a hero. He was a monster and a war criminal.
