OK, you didn't answer my question of what part of town you work, but that's ok. I will use an analogy anyway. Let's say tomorrow you get to work, on foot, easily, and your boss tells you to take the company truck and go get "blah blah" in Plaquemine. Like me, it takes you 2 hours to get there and you are pissed. You think maybe you will see an OT thread that is discussing BR area traffic and chime in? Or will you talk about telling people to find jobs where their bosses only have them walk to do their jobs?

Edit to say you did say you worked in the downtown area

This is an unrealistic scenario because I refuse to be in a situation where I have to drive two hours to clock in.

And no, quite frankly, I wouldn’t bitch about it on the OT. I can’t control what the government does or doesn’t do beyond the nominal influence we all have, but I have full control of my own shite, so instead of allowing traffic problems to enslave me, I’ll do what I have done and make a life for myself that doesn’t depend on 15 miles of I-10/I-12 travel every weekday.

You act as if people don't consider their commute (and local schools and such) when they choose where to live and work. I assure you they do.

Hey, we agree on something. What most of us want is infrastructure better than that of a third world country, and we will bitch until something gets done about it and (hopefully) vote accordingly.

And apparently what you want is to just continue throwing tax money at government and then saying "frick it" when it is squandered. Then spend god knows how many hours researching neighborhoods, schools, daycares, and jobs looking for the perfect place to plan a bike route. And then criticize ol' boy for spending so much time on the road due to an unfortunate combination of employer choices and government failures.

First of all, I didn't say drive 2 hours to clock in. I said your boss told you to run an errand. And the errand ended up being a 2 hour drive, in BR traffic. And then suddenly this became a 3 or 4 a day week occurrence. What then?

Wait a minute. You’re on the clock during this?

Well if your boss tells you to run an errand, and you’re not on the clock while running said errand...let me know if you need a lawyer.

As far as “What then?” the answer is always the same: whatever you want to do. You’re a grown man. Traffic isn’t going to disappear for you. It’s ultimately up to you whether you’re to subject yourself to it.

You don't realize how much of a luxury it is for you to be able to just refuse to go where the work takes you.

Maybe one day you'll have kids or other family members who depend on you and you'll lose some of that control over your own life. Or maybe one day you'll give a damn about how your tax dollars are spent and say something rather than contort your living and working arrangements around government failure.

Edit: And by the way, these recent traffic problems are mostly due to the problems with the intracoastal bridge, and there are a ton of people who cross it without ever getting on the interstate. There are many people who, like you, live within 5 miles of work and it's taking them over an hour to commute. And I'm not sure if it's even legal to bike over that bridge, and it definitely isn't safe to do so.

I see. You have to be in traffic because of the government and family and kids.

If the cars are going less than 5mph, the most dangerous part of a bike commute would be the exhaust fumes.

But where I do have a choice, I choose to hold accountable those responsible for failures, rather than just continually let it slide and modify my whole life around a problem that doesn't have to be. We are supposed to control the government, not the other way around.

You're here calling us slaves, but you're the one making life decisions based on government inaction.

You just have all the answers, don't you? Tell you what, you just go ahead and keep ignoring problems and let the rest of us worry about how the frick we're going to get the local economy operating efficiently.

His argument is completely unrealistic and is comparable to less than 1% of the married couple population in a city like BR

Him and his wife can walk to work from home. Unless you live downtown in BR, no couples with legit jobs are both walking to work. Hell, how many singles with legit jobs are walking to work?

Then he drops in that most of the time he works from home. How convenient

Then if you're in a 5 mile range from work, you should bike. Nothing like a 30 minute bike ride in 95 degree heat in dress clothes to get to your job at the bank. A 5 mile range from downtown is going out to airline and I-12.

You’re also a goddamned idiot. You already have a gas tax. It’s been there since 1990. Yet our roads are shite. Where has the money gone? Why is our infrastructure so antiquated? Giving them
More money won’t do anything but make you have less discretionary money to spend.
Why don’t you just send a check to the state treasury if you think we need to give the state more money?
