No, it's not. And I don't think you are being smug, just unrealistic.

Yeah, sorry, I have a real bad habit of going to the places that I need to go.

The guy already told you his employer moves him around, and there are many people around here in the same boat. His current commute is an outlier, most people live within what should be a 20 minute drive to/from work.

When most people see a pile of shite in their way, they clean it up or demand that whoever is in charge of cleaning up the shite cleans up the shite. But not you! No, you just leave the shite there, going so far as to uproot your entire life just to avoid the shite, and just live and work all on the same side of the shite so nobody has to clean it up.

Do you by chance work for the government?

You get it!! I just needed to vent. Thanks!!

Don’t you know, everyone is supposed to keep a residence within walking distance of every location he might work in. And if a married couple work in different areas, they also need separate residences. And you probably oughta go ahead and have a residence next to each school your kids go to. It’s all so simple, everyone can do it.

Also, I don't think you understand how many people work in plants, and that those people probably don't want to live within walking distance of those plants.

Exactly, and that's usually not even possible.

You're never stuck behind me on your way to work. I’m not responsible for any shite in anybody’s way.

I bike a lot to avoid getting fat (I own a car and try to avoid driving it when possible), and in the few months since I’ve moved here, I’ve noticed that there’s plenty of room in the city for thousands, maybe tens of thousands, more.

This explains nothing to me. Literally nothing.

Toss in the fact that Sherwood is single laned right now and the entire city is nothing but gridlock.

I live a 25-minute bike ride from the Exxon entrance on the east side of the plant. I keep an eye on rents and property values (and sure, demographics) around here, and if I worked at Exxon and had the choice between driving to and from say, Prairieville, and biking (or driving when the weather is crap) to and from anywhere within a five-mile radius of the Capitol, it’s a no-brainer.

The shite is the infrastructure, not the cars.

Nice. Is it one of those sweet rickshaw trikes so you can drop the kids off at their very nearby daycare on your way to work?

Well that's a load off. I think we have enough people in government who just ignore problems rather than fix them.

Wife is a social worker got promoted to the thing above “social worker” (i forget the title because I’m a terrible person) who walks to work. I’m in tech and often work remotely.

No kids yet, but xivette knows everything there is to know about the schools around here (I myself substitute taught a bit in my early 20’s before I moved away), and you can make the system work for you if you want to, and doing so will be far less time consuming than driving to work from a different parish every morning.

This is America. You can get what you want if you’re willing to do what it takes.

The mere thought of driving in BR makes me agitated and it’s been over 10 years since I’ve lived there. Traffic was horrific then and sounds like it’s worse than ever. When traveling across the state to Nola I often just take 90. It’s sad but I’d rather detour all the way down through Morgan City than deal with BR shite.

They aren’t trying to solve the problem. It’s the same old scam. The new mayor or new governor gets elected and pays a survey company (owned by a close friend) millions of dollars to conduct a study about Baton Rouge traffic. The study takes 4 years, the governor/mayor leaves office, a new official is elected and the cycle continues.

Have you answered the question of do you have kids? Or, you know, ANY responsibilities outside of going to work and taking care of yourself?
