re: The Baton Rouge traffic problem exceeds the problem solving skills of our political class

quote:Yep. Remember a few years back when some idiot decided to frick with that exit? Didn't they make it one exit lane instead of two? Traffic backed up, probably caused a few wrecks, and they changed it back in under a week? I wonder how much they spent to study that change before implementing it.
the choke point is still the fricking LA1 southbound exit.
I think the big problem today was they were working on both lanes on the southbound intracoastal bridge, so drivers had to start in the right lane then switch to the left halfway over. That probably cut the already reduced capacity in half again. It really calls attention to just how much of Baton Rouge's productivity has been hanging on by the thread of an F-rated bridge.

It took me an hour to get from my work in North Port Allen to get to the Intercoastal Bridge. I was going to start a thread on the shite show today, but can’t top yours. Well said. I love living here, but Louisiana should be embarrassed by its lack of infrastructure...Baton Rouge in particular.

So I don't want to hear your little pussy arse delays right now. frick off.

Do you have any idea how many years and how many people have been dealing with I10 and LA1 traffic problems? Decades, and tens of thousands. It's just until now the problem has usually been eastbound caused by the idiotic decision to put a sharp turn followed immediately by an exit that reduces a major fricking interstate highway down to 1 lane, compounded by the fact that 90% of the people using said right lane exit are coming from the two left lanes and have only 500 feet to make the shift.
Now the problem goes the other way and you think we're supposed to give a shite about your little hissy fit?

Threads like these are basically people not thinking outside the box criticizing the government of a city they don’t even live in for not thinking outside the box.
Every individual with a problem with traffic is fully capable of solving his own problem. Why not do what the government can’t do for you?

What the hell are you talking about?

Pro tip: stop moving to developments that rely on the interstate to get to and from work. The interstate was not supposed to be used like main street. I'm looking at you Shenandoah and Prairieville.
I rarely experience the problems mentioned on this board because I don't take the interstate very often.

If you commute five times a week from DS to Plaq, that’s easily 10 hours a week, right? That’s 500 hours a year (an entire month of being awake) of your life that you have to sit in traffic.
The government isn’t fixing this for you. What are you going to do?

Anybody who has a long work commute that wears on them: either you make a lot of money, in which case the commute can’t possibly be worth your time and it’s probably a good idea to figure out how to live closer to work, or you don’t make a lot of money, in which case the job isn’t worth the commute and it might be a good idea to update the resume and find a new gig closer to da crib.

So you live in a vacuum? I should move to walking distance from my work? Really? My company might send me down the road in 6 months. So I should go buy a new house every time I get moved?

I can tell you that one of the best things I ever did was putting myself in a situation where I didn’t have to rely on traveling by car every day. I highly recommend it.

I know. I have road rage. And I'm at home.

I have 0 expectation of our government to solve my problem. Never have, never will. I'm just bitching.

I have been trying to find the quickest route to work since the bridge was damaged. I have tried 3 different routes, about to try the next.

Eh, I'm a night owl. You see I'm still up. And I'm doing it because they are paying me enough money to do it. But it still pisses me the frick off that it is taking me 2 and a half hours to get there.

Uhhh, yeah, OK. Really? That's not a possibility for most people.

When most people see a pile of shite in their way, they clean it up or demand that whoever is in charge of cleaning up the shite cleans up the shite. But not you! No, you just leave the shite there, going so far as to uproot your entire life just to avoid the shite, and just live and work all on the same side of the shite so nobody has to clean it up.
Do you by chance work for the government?
