I think those retailers would be better served by a wider 6 or 8 lane street with a wide, landscaped median than a 4 lane highway with service/feeder roads. There is 200' of right of way in most of those sections east of Airline. They could move the travel lanes to the far edges of it and make a lot of those businesses more visible

Then we could call it Siegen Lane.

I can see it "kind of" of working. It seems the government street project pushed traffic out towards Florida, which resulted in some new businesses opening up (gas stations, fast food, rouses) to service the extra traffic. It's not much, but it's a start I guess. They could potentially build off of this. I don't think they need to add affordable housing in with these plans. The affordable housing is already there, and has been unkempt by the people that live in affordable housing. Invest in businesses/parks and allow the current residential areas to thrive around it. That's how you build up an area. Look at all the effort people put into renovating those capital heights houses. It's just a stupid idea to say hey, you guys ruined your neighborhoods with crime and blight, so let's build you brand new apartments with tax payer money, closer to the nicer part of town so you can ruin that too. It's just not going to work. Especially apartments/condos. No one is responsible for these properties because they won't even be able to take ownership of them. The only people who benefit from this is the developer and the first tenants. It will turn into a dump and become the city's (tax payer) problem after that.
We also don't need new apartments for BRCC. Community colleges are commuter schools. You go there because its in your town and you are looking for a simple way to advance your career, you don't travel from out of state/city to go to BRCC and need an apartment near it.

Thank God for Keep Tigertown Beautiful.

I truly applaud them for their good work, but I get irrationally furious every time I see one of their posts about cleaning up xyz overpass or street, or putting out x amount of garbage cans.

Only bc what the F are the people we pay taxes to doing? We have a whole city parish dept. whose literal job is to do what KTTB is doing.

Its good to see they're finally talking about 6 lanes from the Amite River to Airline Hwy..

There's no need to have the elevated highway like they do, with service roads. They need to flatten it, 3 lane it and make right turn only lanes out of the service roads.

Also need to close most of the smaller intersections that have traffic lights, like North little John, McGehee and Broadmoor, and put entrances at those intersections with UTurns every so often like Metairie has on Veterans.
That would alleviate a lot of interstate traffic from LP to downtown BR

and rename it the NASCAR Superexpress Highway

I've had that same thought many times and I realized at some point that I never see DPW crews picking up trash. I never see a DPW truck driving around town anywhere. I'm convinced those guys clock in, pile up in a DPW truck, and go fishing or go sit behind a Walmart somewhere and snooze.

Interactive Map

I clicked on it, and it's zero interaction - basically a Google map of Florida Blvd.
