Iit's about money. About 30k-50k per kid. They use fear to coerce people into spending loads of money on what ifs. Can child birth be fatal? Yes. So can driving a car, giving blood, hunting, riding a bike, etc, etc, etc.

Ok well if you reincarnate as a woman make sure to shun modern medicine when you crank out your kids. Good luck with that. It's well known amongst anyone who's ever read any bit of history that childbirth was a dangerous thing for both mother and child and often resulted in death for one or the other.
