Good to see you putting this together.
8 days, that's gonna be ROUGH, but if you have the energy you have the energy.
If you really clip it in Siem Reap, your top 3 temples are probably going to be Bayon, Angkor Wat, and Ta Prohm which 2 days will be more than enough to cover.
Already booked Phuket huh?
I couldn't say enough about Ko Yao Noi but its a quiet island 30 minute speedboat from from Bang Rong pier (20 minutes from airport). Not for partying at all if that is your thing.
The view from my room last month:
You can get a private boat to scoot around the islands for cheap.
Ta Prohm (Tomb Raider as they like to say)
Waterfall hour outside Siem Reap. That bald white guy is from Oklahoma but has lived in Cairo with his family the past 4 years. You have to go FAR to keep your O&G job
Little slice of Angkor. Can you believe they used to let people climb those stairs? After visiting Cambodia, I can.
Those were all shot with my cell phone when I remembered to use it. It is incredible in person.
I hope some of you baws just got hyped.

How much per suit? I am looking at LINK right now.
I don't know about Empire, but if they are like Raja's Fashions, they are NOT going to make a suit for you in 48 hours.
Literally rejected me and hoped I'd return to Bangkok. I only had 3 days there and they didn't want to make a bad product.
I bet they would have done well but if Empire operates like Raja's does, you might have to go somewhere less well known.
Biggest disappointment of my trip womp womp

Was hoping you would find this thread! I plan on ordering the suits the 1st day and getting by the 8th, if not I will find another place.
Language barrier ok? What's the tipping policy? Is haggling acceptable?
FTR this thread will get bumped as I ask for more info.

Language barrier ok?
I'm actually ashamed of this, but I did not learn one word of Thai and did fine. I usually learn a few phrases for every where I go and just didn't this time. The place is used to english speakers so they can handle you. Only problems I ever had/could have had was Uber drivers which is expected, but putting in the destination in the app solves that and one cabby that I picked up randomly but I called my hotel and gave him my phone.

What's the tipping policy?
Like most of Asia, tipping is not required but of course they will take it. Sometimes, I don't want the little notes all in my pocket and yet they'd still try to return the tip money/give me change. Do whatever you are comfortable with but 20% would be FAR beyond any expectation.

Is haggling acceptable?
Its acceptable in every country not full of white people
My wife is the negotiator in our family. She cut her teeth in India so she is ruthless now.

Thanks for the info I am sure I will be asking for more, I am getting $500 in Bhat before I go from my bank, I know it's roughly .25 cents/Bhat right now.

IIRC correctly, every 100 baht is about 3 dollars. BKK to Sukumvit was about 400 to 500 baht at worst.
ATMs will be there on arrival. So will the 3 major cell phone providers. I used DTAC 7 day tourist sim which gave me data and some talk I didn't need for about $20 US I believe. They will take your phone at the desk and put in the sim for you. Easy peasy.

It's funny how that works, I met a couple that lives in my area of Oklahoma while in Turks and Caicos last year.

Well, they are Sooners. Probably trying to steal some land from the locals.

I was told the ATMs give the best exchange rate while there, hotels have free wifi and that's all I will need, I have a company phone and told them that I will be incommunicado. My boss told me that if I decided to stay I better at least come back for a transition.

Sooners, looking for some good land because they don't have any.

Ya, I got the sim to use Uber, as I had a couple places that weren't super touristy we wanted to go that would have been difficult trying to get across to a driver.
I never really work on vacation, that is just dumb. It is my belief if you aren't all limp about it you will get respect and left alone. I'm glad to see you think the same way
I get all my currency from ATMs on arrival, though I suppose that could get me in trouble some day.

Friend of mine from there swears they have hills. I don't believe him.

Let me add.
Siem Reap uses US dollars. Visa on arrival is like 30 something bucks or whatever, and you have to pay it before you can hit up their ATMs which all spit out US dollars.
So whatever you do have a $100 dollars on you for arrival that you carry from the US.
Also, if you can, break your bills to $10 or less. Preferably, I'd go all 5s and 1s. Handing someone a $20 in Cambodia is like giving them a $1,000 dollars and getting change will be a problem.

I will probably get a card when I get there just in case, the Verizon plan is much more than you quoted.
Yep, if they can live without me for a week or two then I need a big raise!

Thought about this, I have about $400 I keep in hidden places while traveling but in big bills, I will replace them with small bills for greasing when needed. I don't mind over paying by a little because it tends to get you great results.

My wife handed the pool attendant bar tender a $20. Not only did the drinks and food come fast, we're now Facebook friends
But really, a ride anywhere in Siem Reap to any other point in Siem town is 3 to 5 US dollars in a tuk tuk. I'm not kidding that once you get much higher in the bills they just won't have that kind of money on them.
Also, you may get some Cambodian currency as change. Try to fight that off. It's essentially worthless. I have about 1800 of it that I bought for buddha offerings and to give to disabled people at a shrine or whatever. Forgot to get rid of it all, I'm such an a-hole. Anyways, that 1800 is worth a whopping 50 cents
I stuffed it in a Pinata last weekend along with chocolate.

I collect currency from all the countries I go to so I will save some, but will try to avoid the pinata approach.

Besides all the other stuff we get, we make sure to keep some currency and get a cheesy 3Dish magnet. I affix the note to the fridge with the magnet. So we have a Muay Thai magnet holding some baht, Angkor Wat of course holding Riel, etc.
We don't like cheesy stuff in our house, but that is the exception.
I have to go back to my super long Pol Pot book and then bed, but I'll be looking for this thread and I'm sure the others will help as well.
Good luck!

I am going in a month and a half and want recommendations and info that I need. Any shots I need before going? What to see and do is needed.
My daughter and her fiancé just landed yesterday after a 2 month trip overseas. Thailand was one of their stops. I think they spent a week there. I can inquire and get back with you.

I thank you for your wealth of info, the travel times will suck arse but I am really looking forward to this trip. Like I said I will have more questions.
Is there any western food available? My co-worker told me I will be propositioned at every turn but with your wife you may not have seen that.
