Wouldn't just moving to a safer area in the US also have been an option?

But I guess they don't write articles about those people.

Just got back from a week in Honduras. Beautiful country, and the people are great, but no way I would live there. Lots of trash and dogs. So some of you Louisianians may feel at home. I also didn't expect to see the amount of pine trees there.

At least I’m the US if something starts to go down I can call the cops and feel mostly confident they’re not in on it.
