I've always assumed some people in Texas are getting paid handsomely to prevent Texas casinos.
That's what is happening in Alabama. The Creek Indians and Mississippi casinos are putting big money into anti gambling campaigns here. Probably Georgia, Florida and Tennessee are paying Alabama politicians as well because of their lotteries.

There is a legit Dallas v houston angle to gambling being legalized in Houston.
Dallas law makers get $ from Shreveport and Oklahoma to prevent gambling being legalized in Texas. Because they know Tillman Fertitta would build a Vegas casino in Galveston. Killing their business.
Galveston has a legit gambling history and would deserve a casino.
People in Galveston remark that the SAN Luis resort would be ready for casino guest in 24 hours if it ever was legalized

The minute Ferttita got his Louisiana casino, Texas casinos will officially never happen

Not much talk of such.
State is pretty healthy financially.
Casinos in Louisiana, Oklahoma...don't need them

I live in OK and know some folks in the industry. Look at the money the OK tribes donate to TX politicians.

There is a small land based casino at the Alabama Coushatta reservation in between Livingston and Woodville. Been operating for about a year now.
