Looks like they dropped the CS portion and not the CK portion

My son intends to go into cardiothoracic surgery. Here is info on what makes a good candidate for this specialty. There are less than 50 of these residency spots nationwide per year

Step 2 CS was a load of shite
Fly to one of 6 cities. Be recorded seeing fake patients. Can you speak English? Congratulations you passed. Now pay us $5000 for the honor of doing so.
The USMLE is a racket. You can’t say no.
I’m actually SHOCKED they did away with CS.
Step 2 CS is a sit down test. Like 8 hours long. Much like Step 1 just with a more clinical spin.
Yes Step 1 is now pass fail for DEI numbers. Which is a joke.
You can do well on Step 2 CK to put a test score on your application but a lot of times you don’t have to take it before sending in your residency application.

Cardio thoracic surgery is a dying field
I completely believe this

I work in the Cath Lab of a major medical center. We probably do nine TAVRs per week. I can’t tell you how many referrals we send to CT surgery for bypass that get refused and we end up doing high risk PCI’s on.

This happens everywhere. Tulane and LSU are particularly notorious for it, and many of the more qualified applicants they turn down are the ones who actually want to stay in Louisiana and address the physician shortage. They will accept an out-of -state minority kid with inferior credentials over an in-state non-minority kid with a better profile 7.5 times out of 10
It’s a race to the bottom

What’s insane is that it’s the same percentages for college. I thought college was supposed to “level” the field.

that's got to be the answer long term.

dilutes the competency level in the profession, that's been going on in my field for years too, there are some professions where PC has no place but is being forcibly implemented, ticking time bomb, imo

It’s dying not because they aren’t in need
The specialty is dying because of technological advancements and interventional cardiologists and interventional radiologists
Trust me

Engineering immediately comes to mind. Either the math is correct or it isn’t. This idea that certain formulas are fluid based on race/gender will lead to death.

Less than 50 of the integrated 6-year CT residencies. If you don’t get into one of those, you have to go through a general surgery residency and then try to get into a cardiothoracic surgery fellowship after residency.

Lots of advances in interventional cardiology means you are somewhat correct in the long term, but there will always be the need to crack some patients open and do it the old fashioned way. Right now, this specialty is looking at a pretty big shortage of doctors looming due to upcoming retirements. But no doubt, the world of CT surgeons is a fairly small one, and the pediatric CT surgery world is even smaller. Because of his CHD and related surgeries at age 17, that’s what my son is passionate about. Tough road for sure, but it’s what he feels he was out on this earth to do.

All this does is make me seek out Asian and white doctors and completely avoid black doctors at all cost. Great job, morons.

Yep, find you an Asian or white doctor. You can be certain they are well qualified.

Didn't Archie Bunker make that same joke wanting a Jewish doctor?
