If you had to pick between St Jude and Sacred Heart, which school would you pick and why?
I have friends' kids at both. My kids went to St. Jude.
Sacred Heart is what I would pick as of today.
St. Jude had the edge in academics 3-5 years ago, especially in math. Sacred Heart has surpassed St. Jude in all areas.
St. Jude remains click-ish. If you are in the group, then it is all good. If not, then you left out. Sacred Heart has more a family feel for everyone.

killer math department
St. Jude was ranked top five in state for math and math competitions 5 to 10 years ago.
Not any more. Teacher who head that up retired a few years ago. Hand-off to new group has not produced the same results. Other schools have passed St. Jude.

No...youre just trying to justify paying private school. My kids in public school getting college credit in ap classes as a freshman.
Son and daughter have done that.
Daughter left most of here AP at the university gate. Most of the classes she wanted to take at the collegiate level for the knowledge and refresher. Yea, she got AP Biology as a sophomore, but you lose a lot of the knowledge over three years.
You can get AP either way. Just a side note, plan those AP carefully.

This type of ignorance floors me...I know high profile families whose kids went to Episcopal and are now felons right out of HS...tell me more about this good atmosphere

Interesting info. Thanks for adding.
I grew up in BR and went to St Aloysius then Catholic, but haven't lived in BR since graduating LSU. We are coming back, and sorting through the Catholic schools for our daughter (will be in 3rd next year) and son (PreK).
I definitely recall St Aloysius being a bit cliquish, but so many of my neighborhood friends went there that it wasn't a big deal to me. Haven't heard the same about St Jude, but since it's a small school and a (relatively) small parish I could definitely see that happening.
If you don't mind my asking, were you members of St Jude parish while your kids attended?

It isn't much, that is the point I was trying to make. I was surprised at this too when I found out myself. I have two nephews that are Jrs at Catholic and they both started but dropped out of AP classes because there was no benefit other than being challenged more. Now, instead of busting arse for an A in that class they have more time to study and work on other classes. Its been 17 years since I graduated but sports is so much more demanding time wise now too.
And there we go.
Like an adviser told us at Catholic: "Your son can have a CHS Honors diploma or full TOPS. Which is worth more to you?"
AP and Honors are usually for kids who have a passion for what they are learning. Why? All the additional work. Lots of additional work. My colleges don't care of the course work a kid completed. AP Honors looks good but National Merit and top ACT/SAT scores are much better. Plus, it is a huge scholarship points for extracurricular activities.
I have first hand knowledge of this.

I don't know of this mommy mafia you speak of. The mothers/parents of my children's friends are all wonderful people. Are you telling me all the mommy's at BRMHS are better people than the parents at Catholic schools? There are good and bad everywhere. I just didn't hang out with the bad Catholics I guess.

Damn dude. You are on a roll know. Four or five beers in?
Worked for my kids. I know the same type of high profile kids and I can tell you they are in every school - public or private.
I got my kids..and they got themselves..around a good group of kids. From the teachers and parents I talked with who work/kids attend public schools, those groups are there, but small and tend to be look down upon.
That is my two cents. Your mileage will vary.

Yes we were. Got involved as much as we could, which was a lot.

I have no idea what your personal demons are, but I have no complaints about my childrens' Catholic education. It has worked well for us. I would never tell someone that they should pursue that path, but obviously you feel strongly that no one should choose Catholic schools.

Wrong...my mileage stands the test of time...there is no right or wrong way...congrats for you and what worked for you...success is completely localized and if there were an exact science to this you should patent that shite. You started on the catholic school high horse...What would those at BYU say to you and your children whom we should all assume are what astronauts, surgeons and the like? Your pontificating pisses me off

Judging by how big of a douche you are I feel sorry for your son.

Ok, I will bite. You being doing ribs and drinking Modelo all day it appears so WTH eh?
No Catholic High high horse for me. Just personal experience of how it is helping my son be a better person. Can I get that at Tara (which is my school district btw...at my old house, it would have been Broadmoor since Woodlawn was just 1 mile away..that discussion is another time and place)?
No, probably not. He is not BRMHS material. Maybe another public magnet school. Did I want to move to the AP or LP or Zachary or Central for a school? No, I sorta like living in Baton Rouge. He does well at CHS, both academically and extracurricular stuff. It has worked well for my kid. It has worked well for our friends' kids.
We struggle to send him to CHS. It is worth our struggle in our opinion. It is our choice and these are my experiences.
Good luck to you.

And you seem to be an even bigger a-hole. You've helped take a simple question and turn it in to some weird public vs. private school pissing match.
You made a couple of decent points but then went complete douchebag.

I have a son there in K and another starting in the fall. My nieces and nephews went as well. I like the school and the church. Ftr. Trey is great. We like that it is small. I went to St. Al and thought about sending my kids there, but the bus for St. Jude passes in front of my house and that's where I go to mass....so.
