I’m 52 and all I wanted as a teen was cash

This isn't some new thing that today's teens are doing.
I got presents from my parents, but they knew the exact specific things I wanted.
I definitely preferred cash from everyone else though because most of the time, gifts from extended family were something I had no interest in or clothes that I'd probably never wear.

I don't give young people money.
As a .after of fact, I've told everyone I'm not giving anyone a damn thing. My only "gift" is that I will help and teach them how to make a woodworking projects of their choosing. I'll even supply or buy the hardwood lumber.
They can assist/watch me use my 5 hp planer, my jointer, table saw and all of my tools for joinery. They get a bed, table, whatever and learn some cool skills. They just have to commit some effort.
And not surprisingly, im sure no one will take me up on it.

I was 15 when I asked if I could just have cash for Christmas. My dad laughed and said "Just don't spend it on booze." I didn't think that was funny.
