I'm personally not a mother myself, however from my perspective, I don't necessarily see what you did as being detrimental towards your son. I'm sure as his mother, seeing him upset hurts and it's difficult to do the right thing. But I think its respectable that you are doing it nonetheless, especially without losing control of the situation.
