Pay teachers 60k a year starting salary

One of the more humorous things in life to me is the fact that no matter the discipline being taught, ALL teachers are on the same pay scale.

That's economically moronic. If you want better teachers, then yes, you raise the pay to get them. But, the amount it takes to attract a top notch physics teacher is NOT the same amount it takes to attract a top notch art teacher.

I should add that simply raising the pay without allowing yourself to eliminate CURRENT mediocre teachers is also a waste of time.

The software company that has decided it's current employees aren't up to snuff don't just raise the pay; they raise the pay and REPLACE the current staff.

Teachers already have to bank a certain number of CEUs to renew their licenses every few years. Many earn advanced degrees or take additional college courses to satisfy this requirement.

I agree with many points but two things need to happen for teachers

1. All teachers must possess a master's in education in order to teach, 5 yr program instead of 4....

2. You motivate teachers by starting their salary at 60k with a max ceiling of 90k with yrs of exp as it goes....

In Texas teacher make at least 10k more in most areas than la. As a whole...if ur a coach...the lowest paid head football coach/teacher in texas makes 90k....in la. A football coach may get a 15percent of his salary added to his teaching pay, band teachers even less...I know a teacher who left teaching making 40g or a little more certified in math and took a job with baker Hughes, now making over 100g because he had a math certification ...really smart guy...education along with a master's....education couldnt keep him because of money....

Just my opinion....if laywers, drs, oilfield, br police(lol) etc can make more....trust me, our teacher's should make more ... just my opinion....

This post reminds me of sitting in the coaches office with a college coach who was on a scouting visit and he goes "what do yall make here as head coach, about 90k?"
Said it as serious as he could. The entire room starting dying laughing

I'm going to do a little teacher bashing in a different arena...the absolute worse customers at my restaurant are teachers...self entitled a-holes who treat my staff like shite.
They come in with only 30 minutes for lunch and expect to get in and out in a full service restaurant in time to get back to school...teacher in-service days are the worst.

I hate it when I run into a drilling engineer at the supermarket. Ruins my day.

That's foolish for High School. Degrees and Advanced Degrees should be subject specific.

I dont think so because their under graduate work will be their specific field....getting a master's of education is a bitch not too mention you kill two birds with one stone because now a teacher will be certified to move into adminstration and supervision...the real teachers will push thru...but the pay will be increased

I would have less of a problem with that. I don't want my kids learning physics and Western Civilization from someone with an education degree.
