They posted that route for people going across the country. Not for people make a short trip within the two states. You obviously wouldn't do that if you're going to somewhere close in east Texas.

Getting on 20 in west Texas then going all the way to 49 and back to 10 is only 50 miles longer than staying on 10 that whole time between Van Horn, Tx and Lafayette.

This is crazy. Has this ever happened before?

I'm sure it has but I wonder how long it's been.

If anybody absolutely needs to get across the Sabine River without a gigantic detour, you can go down to Johnson Bayou and take the ferry across. Have to take Hwy 27 South in Sulphur down to Holly Beach and head west on Hwy 82

Glad it wasn't closed Sunday, or I'd have a very unhappy boss.

They didn't shut down I-10 for Rita or Ike. Thats how significant this is and how much of a cluster this will be.

I rode to Orange yesterday morning just to check things out. On the way, the water was about 2 feet from the interstate and the crest isn't even until tomorrow at double what height it is now. This was at 9am.

There are about 4 small overpasses between Vinton and Orange and it wouldn't surprise me if one of them washed out. If that happens, then holy shite.

Wtf!!! I'm headed to Houston late Thursday/early Friday for Texas2k16. Is I-20 better as in I can travel from Jackson to Shreveport on it, or are there still closures on 20?

Small preview of what a quake on the Mid America Fault would do to the transportation system on a mega scale.

Shreveport... Not too far out the way.

This looks like what I'm looking at, but the route I pulled up doesn't show a ferry.

Is that the ferry near Cameron? Route I'm pulling up doesn't go through there.

Same boat as you. Don't see a ferry nor can I find any info on one. Signs on I-10 recommending this route as a detour so fingers crossed. I'm about to take the scenic route.
