This one baffles me. Why hasn't Alabama discovered the drive out tag?

Is there another way you are supposed to do it? I put that on the vehicle when I bought it private and drove it back to Louisiana.

They don’t issue temp tags? If you buy from a dealer in Louisiana, they give you a temp tag with your temporary registration attached to the back. If you bring your act of sale and title to a dmv, you walk out with a plate. In what scenarios elsewhere do you have a generic “tag applied for” as an official, approved status of your vehicle?

Temp. tag by a dealer or "bill of sale" for a private party sale.

I've only seen this in Alabama.

Most all other states have a real temporary tag.

I've been driving for 12 years with a tag applied for sign. Y'all shut the hell up.

They give you a plate now. Only time you’d see that is when you get a vanity plate. I had a temp one when I had a Troy plate on my Jeep. But it was a paper copy with the personalized plate number on it.

I've seen both of those that you have pictures in AL. I think the "tag applied for" is given out by used car lots that self finance to Poor's at 20% interest.

However, I bought from a big inventory place in Bham 2 years ago and they didn't give me anything but the paperwork to take to the tag office in my county. I got pulled over the next day and showed my paperwork and insurance. He said it was all good since I had that paperwork and you have 30 days to get a tag. Who knew?
