I haven't been, but I've heard of a plsce on the NS called White Sands beach.

We've got a camp on Lake Claiborne and we spend a lot of time up there in the summer. My son just moved to Baton Rouge and is missing all the lakes we have in N. La. That's about all he's missing though. 
They go to the Amite river and ride jet skis a lot, but he says it just isn't the same. I never could figure why there aren't more larger public lakes around BR.
