I was lucky worked for my grandfather construction company my JR and Sr summer in high school. Worked with trades doing their crappy work or cut grass around the office. Best skills I picked up was working with the older survey crew supervisors and concrete finishing crew supervisors to layout commercial jobs.

Those skills helped easily gain part time employment in summer when I was older.
Even when I worked full time I had a few construction companies employ me part time to teach their newer supervisors how to operate transit and total station which to some people is hard to do.

Then my uncle had lawnmower and tractor dealer. Basically helped the assembler and delivery people. I learned how to work on and assemble tractors, implements, and mowers.

Back in the 1970’s the pay was decent for young person versus working at McDonald’s.

I was in the Georgia Power Company summer program. Was great and pay was pretty darn good saved enough to pay for first qtr. of school every year. I would hit up places like that most big companies have programs and they will offer you a job at completion usually if you do a good job for them. I wish I would have took that job way back when might would be better off in long run but I love what I do now.
