Nearly every suit I see these days is side vented. Single vents look old man and cheap to me. Side vents FTW

Center vents aren't necessarily poorly constructed, but they are cheaper to make from a fabric cost standpoint.

Meh, dress appropriately for your age and weight and situation. If you're one of the few who still wears a coat and tie to work, pay attention to what your superiors are wearing. If they're all center vent Ivy style guys, they'll view you as a Guido if you wear double vents. It's called dressing for success. There's even a classic book of that title.
And don't wear two-toned(!) brown shoes with a blue suit to a presidential debate.

In what circles is the center vent some sort of upper-class, sophisticated look?
I own center vent and side vent suit coats, but I find it hilarious that you are presenting the idea that elderly superiors with no sense of fashion whatsoever would actually give a shite what type of suit you're wearing.
IF they're all "center vent, Ivy style" guys, it is probably because they don't actually give a shite and center vents are most popular on off the rack suits.

Most style guides will recommend the double vent over the center vent, and some will suggest that it doesn't matter much, but you'd be hard-pressed to find someone advocating the center vent as the better option.

Out of curiosity, where do you live? Wherever it is, it has made you very out of touch.
In no way, shape or form are side vents viewed as artsy or guidoish.

Doesn't really matter. Either is fine, just make sure you are fitted properly. I prefer side vents, and I typically go for suits and jackets in the Neapolitan style - which can be either, but the brands that fit me best (Belvest, Sartoria Partenopea, Isaia, etc) usually are double vented in ready to wear offerings. Neither is wrong, and neither is more updated or outdated, just simply a matter of taste, and as others have mentioned body type, but the fit is critical. A less expensive suit expertly fitted will be a better look than a more expensive one poorly fitted.

I remember a handful of years ago you could barely find a side vent suit coat, everything was single or none.
