Right on. If you need an extra eye on the lookout when the time comes, just holler. FBD krewe has Uptown pretty covered.

Gentilly ain't too far. With 1-10 and 610 close by, It's a short drive to mostly anywhere in the city. Only the Riverbend and deep Uptown are kinda far
I rode my bike to French Quarter Fest this weekend and made it there in like 20 minutes

You can't even rent a decent apartment in katy, tx for < $1000 month
I think you're being unrealistic
Don't listen to this nonsense. There is a place right next door to me renting in your price range in a good area on Carrollton. University area is where you need to look, especially with school letting out soon and leases coming up. Use padmapper app.

I lived in a 1 BR apt/condo for 3 years at $875 /month in the garden district. You can find them but its getting harder. You should definitely be able find something under $1000 in the university area or east of university as well if you want to stay uptown. Finding something in the garden district or bear Audubon for that price range is tougher.
The biggest hurdle IMO is the lack of decent 1br options. You'll find many more 2+br places which of course command a higher rent.

Another problem with finding one bedrooms in good locations these days is Airbnb and other short term gigs like film people in town with plenty of money for a few months. If you're local, you can make so much more $$$ doing that than with full time tenants.
I make more in a weekend with the studio apartment in my back yard than I did in a month. And I don't have people back there full time.
