Good luck! We just started looking at house plans. Hopefully we are going to start construction in 2019. We have been looking on every site and everything either has way more than we need or doesn't have everything we want in it. I'm to the point I think I'm going to find a designer.

Don't buy internet plans unless you are a contractor building a spec. Every homeowner should have a draftsman or architect design a custom home to their specific needs. There is nothing wrong with having someone tweak an existing plan, but if you are going through the headache of building a custom home, start with custom plans.

Madden home design and Kabel House plans both do good work for this area.
Mostly a "country French" or Acadian style. Both have lots of plans on their websites to look over but even more in their library in office.
I bought my plans from Kabel but we ended up buying a house right before we started building.
No regrets.

Kabel did our first house, and I'm meeting with Madden next Tuesday for our next house. Everyone I know who have used either of them has been very pleased.
Both are fairly backed up right now though. Over a month just to get an initial meeting/consult.

This. Hire an architect. You may think you can get by without one, and so did I. But in the end we hired a local guy who designed homes in the style we liked, and I would spend that money again 100 times out of 100. It's hard to describe but a custom home just looks different. They will take into account the terrain of your property, position of the house on the lot, etc that it's tough to get if you use a pre-drawn set of plans.
It's good to have ideas going in, but having someone consider all of the unique things about your project is the way to go.
