What you (I think) Jones, and others aren't getting is the fact that I 100% disagree that you should just comply with an officer under any circumstances. Then just "take it up in a court of law". Do you guys understand that is NOT how the law works in this country? That isn't acceptable? I'm not talking about Sterling. Just in general.
And what most everyone else is saying is that it is a problem, but that's not the hill that most of us are willing to die on (literally).
If you feel so strongly about it that you are willing to die over it, go for it. I will continue to question anyone's judgment that decided that non-compliance with a cop overstepping their grounds is worth dying over.

Guys, think a little deeper. I don't even think THESE cops did anything wrong. But to think there aren't any dirty cops is ignorant
There are bad cops, bad doctors, bad priests, bad teachers.....
All of these professions can ruin lives on a whim, same as any criminal with a gun

To be fair, I'm a decently well to do white guy. I've questioned cops and it never gets overly confrontational. If I were black I don't know that it would always be so easy. I'm sure now people will be mad about this. I've met Jones. I liked him as enough as a dude. It amazes me he's being such a bitch about having an open dialogue

I agree. It doesn't take much knowledge to manipulate the system. If you're going to break the law, you should know how to avoid the consequences.

Fortunately most criminals are stupid.

What have your experiences been to lead you to believe that a majority of BR cops don't have a grasp of the law they enforce?
Posted on 5/3/17 at 10:04 pm to mikrit54
You only know about the stupid ones

Obviously. But our officers need to be held to a higher standard. IM NOT TALKING ABOUT ALTON. But the one in Dallas this past week, Rice in Cleveland, and the one in SC were bad

Completely agree. I don't get along with the majority of them

I still believe they need more training in the legal aspect of the job
Need better quality recruits that actually want to be more knowledgable but as it stands now almost every agency in the country has a shortage and is scraping the bottom of the barrel
That being said, there is other alternatives than resisting a lawful command. Hell, even an unlawful one unfortunately. Taking the cop on right then and there will never work out in your favor.
I mean if a cop walks up and says lick that dog shite or in taking you to jail, well you don't fight him on it. Put yourself in the back of his car and go for a ride.
If he comes at you gun drawn and says lay on the ground, don't stand your ground and try to explain its a mistaken identity and challenge him. There is a time and place for that

Once again, you don't need to be a lawyer to have a grasp of the law.

I wish I was more confident in my white privilege. I mouthed off to a cop once, but he was being a dick. I just told him if you are giving me a ticket I appreciate if you did. If not I would like to go.

Huh? I've posted 1 thing to you and it was answering a question where it was obvious what the answer was.
It seems like you are purposely moving the topic at hand to argue a point(one that everyone actually agrees with you ironically...the dirty cop thing)
Posted on 5/3/17 at 10:07 pm to Kvothe
And in this instance, this criminal was stupid. And he paid the price.
