Im a full time stay at home dad. Gave up $100k+ job at the time.
I know a few guys at the club that are married to Dermatologists, Interventional Radiologists and the like. They too had solid careers. The choices they made to stay at home were all based on their families. Basically they didnt want the nanny raising the kids.
The funny thing is all the old guys, the ones with millions upon millions in the bank are all jealous of the stay at home dads. Those were the guys in this thread who think "yeah not for me. so lame. cant let my wife outrank me, gotta get my paper blah blah" They have their millions but regret not having more time with their kids. Regret not spending more time so that they would still be on family #1 instead of family #3.
Granted, its a fine line right? You gotta eat and provide. And Jody is always lurking around the corner for the stay at home moms. But from what I know, if you can do it, do it. Money comes and goes but family is forever.

Not taking advantage of your earning potential is selfish man or woman... this a capitalistic society we living in here

Sure. Especially if you want a divorce in a few years.

That’s not a huge expanse.
There are ppl with trust funds or otherwise wealthy.
If she likes her career and she doesn’t care then why not.
You could spend time driving your Ferrari, fishing or flying his chopper.

I have zero respect for any able bodied man that doesn't work.

Typical far left loon.

My response was not directed at you. You were the last post so I replied. My wife was a stay at home mom until my kids started school. Then she went to work at that school.

Like, if your wife makes 175 k and you make 150k.
The normal stay at home parent situation is where one person makes the vast majority of the income, so that the person not working can make up for their lack of income with savings elsewhere(no daycare/maid, more homecooked meals etc).
It's pretty drastic to go from making a combined 325 to 175.

ESPECIALLY when the kids are involved... how is this even a question... a grown able body man should be earning... if his spouse a multimillionaire that's different... but if your ole lady got a job you need to be doing some productive(earning) also

That’s not what you said - you said
Mom should be at home with the kids if possible, despite her earning potential

In your case, though, you were willing to be the breadwinner for your wife and kids and actually were for a time. This gave your wife the time and feeling of security to come up with and start her business. Different imo from a guy who wants to be supported from the beginning.

Believe it or not, a person can be very productive and bring huge value to a household without earning income.
The stay at home parent can aid the working parent in climbing their career ladder and making more money and being more "productive" than they ever could if didn't have a spouse they could rely on to keep the house and kids together.
Lot easier for a person to focus on their career and move up the ranks if they know their home and kids are taken care of.

You are pretty dumb if you can't think of frick ton of ways a stay at home parent can make life 100x easier and overall better for the other members of the household.

50 years ago probably... I wouldn't want my daughter to know Daddy make all the money and Mama cleans the house... or that her Mama is wasting a accountant degree...
