I was thinking about starting a landscape and lawn mowing business. has anyone ever done this and has thoughts on how it will turn out?

Make sure you’re cut out for it.

Was relatively easy to start this up in the 90s.
Not so much now.
Try to get in on some of those sweet Dollar General contracts.

Start small with your neighborhood and try it out. If you enjoy it and want to do it after, then go ahead. Advertise for pet waste pick up, you wouldn't believe the amount of ppl that will pay or fees ppl charge.

I hope he's done the leg work necessary.

Go look at the big box store contracts as well. Like Sam's and Walmart, etc. You might consider adding some parking lot sweeping to your portfolio. You don't need a sweeper to start out with. It will take some longer man hours but you can use some less expensive blowers, brooms, bags till you can afford a sweeper, but getting that contract is the key.
If you aren't friends with any of the management of any of them you may want to network and get to know them. Contracts generally last for 2 years so if they have vendors now you can still break in. Try sticking to commercial, and you can add a residential division later.
Agree with others it is not for everyone and you may want to start smaller than what I have suggested to make sure it's what you want.

1. pick a decent looking neighborhood with square lawns and door knock. if you get one do it well and offer a discount if that person refers another neighbor to you.
2. get you a zero turn, baw
3. ???
4. profit

Had a boss in the mortgage business teach me an invaluable lesson over 10 years ago. I am super inquisitive by nature and was always interesting in testing the limits of our in house guidelines for the mortgage products we offered. I was in his office all the time asking questions and wanting to know about this, that or the other.
I went from a new hire to a nuisance in short order. I was also using him as a crutch and preventing myself from mastering our guidelines on my own much more quickly than just asking him everything.
So he made me bring my guidelines in along with my scenario and prove to him that I researched on my own regarding the subject I was asking about before I could ask my question.
In other words, do your own research before you ask me so YOU can show me you're learning before I help.
I sat in line with a girl I've been taking classes with since January relating to a certification exam we are both took yesterday morning. She's doing it for work. I'm doing it because there are several side hustles I'll use it for to supplement my income for away from the office. I haven't shared my plans with ANYONE else in the class. Simply put none of them showed up, or expressed anything other than an eye-rolling excuse of, "Inhave to do this for work and they're making me take the class," so to me, they don't deserve me telling them about the money that can be made using this certification.
But this little girl is getting it for work but mentioned she has been looking for part time work outside of their company. She's newly divorced, technologically challenged and was wondering if our certification could be used to help accomplish it.
She told me how she'd tried Googling but evidently her skills are limited. So I opened up chapter and verse on exactly what and how. Once we talked, she proved to me she had done the work beforehand and researched to the best of her ability and still had questions.
In short, she'd done her work up front.
In short, you haven't. So I apologize if my creativity or knowledge isn't something I'd prefer to let you use while you stand on my shoulders to make yourself more successful. How about you put in more effort than just making a post on here asking how others have done it?
It sure as hell worked for me, and it worked for my classmate. It might just work for you too if you put a little more effort into it.

How else can you provide an arrogant and condescending laden lesson to someone on a message board?

My first cousin started a business mowing lawns and it grew into a business that covered maintenance and landscaping. That was years ago and he is a millionaire and has tuned his business over to his sons. Start small and keep growing.

Anyone that spends that much time bragging about a new certification will really master their new craft.
I have full confidence that your boss will see your talent and you’ll move from fry cook to grill man in no time.
TLDR: you’re a douchebag

Gonna be tough to beat out the illegals. They have the yard mowing locked down around my area. If you get into landscape design you can do pretty good. Like everyone is saying get 4 or 5 yards to cut and go from there. Try to stay in the same neighborhood so you dont have to drive all over for 35 bucks.

Are you doing this during the week? Nobody wants their grass cut on the weekend when they’re home
