You should do motivational speaking about the consequences of not getting a good education.
Talk about prison, bar tending, and posting on the OT.

Oh look, another teacher making excuses on why he did a shitty job teaching elementary arithmetic and english to fourth graders.
oh look, another ignoramus blaming teachers for lazy, poorly-parented kids who have ZERO skin in the game of standardized testing. No matter what score the student earns, he or she is automatically promoted to the next grade.
The rules regarding the new PARCC test are insane. In the past, when a student was classified and had an IEP, (which means they tested significantly below grade level), their scores were not factored into a regular education teacher's effectiveness score. Now they are. A student in 5th grade, working on a 2nd grade level, goes to the special ed teacher part of the day for reading and math instruction, takes the 5th grade test, and the failing scores count against the regular ed teacher's effectiveness rating. How on earth does that make any sense???

Honest question for you.
I've often felt that the test score thing should be taken in the aggregrate. If a few kids screw around, it should not effect your rating. If EVERY kid screws around, it's probably a teaching issue.
Is there any validity to that?
I know when I was in school, we tried harder for the better teachers. The crappy teachers, we just did not care to do our work and sometimes actively tried to get them fired.
