In my experience with Catholic schools - of which I am an alum - they're far more concerned with their appearance than they are with the "Catholic thing to do."

This.

I went to a small Catholic school during middle school (for 4 years) and I didn't like it at all. It is all about "appearing to be a good Catholic".. Or at least that's how it was there. I assume that is the biggest factor in this situation. The school probably doesn't care that she wrote it, they just care about the fact it spread across social media and it was associated with the school.

Does this mean I won't have to hear the "St. Michael's legacy warrior fund" radio commercial every 5 minutes on my way to work everyday? If so, that's a win for me but my god this girl is fricking stupid.

You actually think there's nothing wrong with what she wrote or are you just defending your friend? Don't hit us with "it's just her opinion, man"

course it is. And I think this girl, just like the black student of the same mindset, is wrong. But thats part of life. The difference is, this girl will probably be expelled

I really hope you are wrong on her being expelled. I just hope that doesn't happen. People frick up. It's life. She's just a kid who seems to be mis guided. I hope st Michael will let her continue to be a student and work with her through her mis guided views she wrote in her paper.

Quick anecdote/csb. I watched The Best of Enemies last night and today I looked up and read both William F. Buckley's and Gore Vidal's Esquire write ups about one another. After finishing them both, particularly Buckley's, I felt much smaller in respect to my grasp of the English language and ability to express myself. It was a humbling experience.

Fast forward to circa 30 minutes ago, and I read the paper written by this student. It's like the universe decided to break me down only to build me back up today.

Seems he is speaking from his life experience

He appears to be proof that racism today is learned even though it's not explicitly taught. His life experiences (and a short life so far) have caused him to develop these opinions. That's common especially in the south.

Encounters with black people and a pattern of behavior that he observed shaped his opinions.

Imagine if every time you went to McDonalds restaurant, their ice cream machine was broken. You'd have learned that McDonalds is a generally a shitty place to get ice cream. Can't really blame you for thinking that after the experiences you had.

It is hard to be this misguided without help from her parents, but StopLightObservation has assured us they're good people. Outspoken racists, but good people nonetheless.

She's not my friend, and to be honest I don't give a shite that she wrote that. I don't agree with it but I'm not going to go around bashing the girl. She comes from a good family, as for why she wrote that I have no clue.

Do I care? No.

Was she wrong in what she said? No, it's her opinion and God given right.

Do I agree with everything said? No.

Does that clear everything up for you?

You can write your opinion as much as you want, just as long as you are willing to face the consequences.

I think it's pretty humorous but stayed out of it until now. You admitted you went to SMHS because you're friends went there. That's one of the reasons SMHS gets so much shite on here. Weak minded sheep that go there "because my friends go there" or "because there are girls...you must be gay to go to catholic" are the reason why that school has the reputation it has on here.

I grew up across the street from SMHS and went to Catholic because it is a better school.

Ok I'm done....
