Lawrence Richard.

This may be the best thing I've seen in a while. The handwritten 78s really complete his t-shirt.

No this isn't a joke, he'll be on the ballot.

quote:

Lawrence Richard is a political newcomer. He has no background in law enforcement. He wants to reform the parish jail.
"It's overcrowded there now," Richard said. "When I get in office the one that got misdemeanors I will let their bench warrant go towards their fine. So therefore they wont have to pay it no more. I just need one year one year of their time and I will clean up St. Landry Parish."

Inside Opelousas, Washington, and Eunice a landslide for this guy.

Unincorporated areas plus Krotz Springs & Port Barre will help the existing Sheriff Bobby Guidroz win.

It is not about enforcing the law it is about making the majority of the voters happy.

He'll try to pilot him to victory, eh? See what kind of relationships he can forge with key members of the community? Knows him to be a man of strong convictions, eh? Make sure he gets all the important endorsements?

Contrary to popular belief, St. Landry parish is still majority white. Roughly 56/44 and whites vote at a higher rate than blacks. People see Opelousas, which is about 3/4 black, and think majority black as a parish, but, as you pointed out, that is really only true in a few areas. Eunice is actually majority black.

Add to that, Bobby Guidroz is a Seasoned politician and the Sheriff's office in Louisiana are very much political offices as much as law enforcement offices.
