Sorry for ignorance but this is bad for St George right? I wanted to vote on this soon.

Two schools of thought. Yes and no...

Yes it's bad if st George has to carry the same burden without those entities. Like the coroner, das office, and like twelve other parish wide offices.

No it's not bad if these entities will continue to cover all of the costs they covered before. Like if the coroner cost ten million a year and that money continues to be covered by what la berge kicks in.

I Don't know for sure what the correct answer is.

thought it was understood that central and Zachary were some of the highest performing in the state. When did this change?

It didn't. He is arguing semantics.

Central quality of education soared up when they split, as did Zachary.

ETA: both doing so with little to no corporate tax base.

Sorry, I am late to the party.

You guys must realize that your taxes will go up, right?

We can argue about how much but this is a "fact", no?

If St George becomes a city why should they pay anything toward parish services if Baton Rouge, Central, Baker, and Zachary do not pay for those services?

All Kip Holden is doing is expanding a balloon that will bust leaving all the parish cleaning up this mess.

or another famous saying

Robbing Peter to Pay Paul.
You already are taking the Casino taxes and only using them inside the city of Baton Rouge. Now you have to provide services while receiving the same amount of taxes as before.

I don't live there and really don't care what happens.

It intrigues me that BR and Kip have come so hard against this.

I just like making Russian look like a moron in these threads too.

I believe taxes will certainly be higher, but also believe that the residents will have results in the form of better schools. As I stated before, residents will pay out the arse for good schools in suburbia and wear it as a badge of honor.

True - I paid a substantial amount of ISD tax while I lived in Houston and the schools were fantastic . I now pay about 3 times as much for private school in La and they are only marginally better.

This. It's the same thing I've been saying to these "it's all about the schools". Nothing will ever change at Woodlawn period. The area is this. Rich kids go to private schools and always will. Everyone else goes to Woodlawn. Period that's why the it's about schools is such a bull shite excuse to try to hide the fact is all about money and power

If I learned nothing living in AP it is that homeowners will pay out the arse for questionable services only to maintain top rated schools.
Ascension Parish?

Top rated schools? Pu-LEEZE.

I'm all for parents paying higher taxes in order to have better scholls for their children. I'm against politicians telling taxpayers no additional taxes will be needed when even a casual observer knows it's a lie.

This is another example of your ignorance, although you don't let your ignorance interfere with your continuing to post.

All property owners in EBR pay parish taxes regardless of the city where they live.

I believe taxes will go up. Can't argue that. I think people would still vote for the split knowing this.

To make it easy on you, first Central, Baker and Zachary do pay for Parish services. Second, the area now known as St. George pays and uses them now, they want to keep using them, the State Constitution requires the institutions anyway, and thus, they have to keep paying for them, else create duplicate services (which they have not budgeted for).

You can spit your clichés out, but those don't help you understand things any better.
