I was born in 1983 so we didn't have cell phones or internet as a kid so by that definition in the OP i'm gen-x. we didnt even have cable yet, and I remember when the FOX network was added to UHF
born in 83 and feel the same way. i think people in early 30s can go either way right now. i completely identify with Gen X whereas sometimes my wife and a some acquaintances my age are definitely Millenials.

The cold war had a strong affect on Boomers and Gen. X. Never underestimate how it affected everything from the 50's to the 80's.

Most Gen Xer's raised themselves for sure. Fantastic point.
The daycare generation. That industry exploded during our childhood. It went from mom & pop to franchised systems. Those people were not teaching. They were watching you play. Swimming lessons and that's about it.
When parents picked you up at 6 they would make dinner by 7-7:30 then leave you to your own devices. Bed by 9-10. Weekends were for mostly entertainment. You had a few chores but, the priority of teaching was just not there. Television became bigger. Cable offered a big pacifier. Multiple TVs further separated families. The dinner table became a thing of the past.
The working class had a lot to juggle.

The "look at me" generation. Whatever they can do to get their viral video fame. If it's playing a knockout game, or being 16 and pregnant. They feel that to be socially accepted they have to have a video out there that makes them famous. I do think the racism that defined the pre-baby boomer generations has largely subsided (there are still crazy bigots out there, of course). I have a grandfather who, upon getting medical assistance from a black EMT, shouted "Get that n**** out of here."
The microagressions of today's world don't compare to the outright hate of earlier America, and I do think the boomers are largely to credit for starting that trend.
