That's a new one. What is that?
It's used in manufacturing to determine imperfections in iron. You can unveil cracks, flaws & other imperfections in iron, without compromising the integrity of the object being tested. It's commonly used in other industries as well.
I know where I work, guys fresh out of tech school with an NDT certificate can earn $60K/year easily. Not bad for a 19 or 20 year old.

IMO if you meet these 2 criteria you will be successful:
Work hard
Have a passion for what you do
If he goes straight into the working world, he simply will not be able to coast. Sure there are extremely successful folks with no degrees, but they got where they are by JUMPING at every opportunity, making good connections/impressions, and just putting in more work than the average joe
in college you can be a little more "passive" but at the end of the day you gotta do whatever it takes to get the grades in a good major.
Which path is tougher depends on the person. But if he doesn't even want to go to college, the chances of him picking a tough major and excelling are slim to none. All comes back to having passion. Some have to figure that out the hard way.

Of adults over 18 in the U.S. only around 25% have a 4 year degree. Of students that started college in 2005 only 57% had finished a degree after 6 years.
Given the high level of college dropouts, anyone that goes to college without a clear idea of what they want to done is just wasting time and money.

I know a guy without a degree who makes real life OT baller money and he did it completely though hard work and dedication.
Take it FWIW. The american dream doesn't have to happen on the back of a college education.

[quote]People really need to stop using Bill Gates as a poster boy for not attempting or obtaining a college degree.
That leaves Steve Jobs, Larry Ellison, Richard Branson, and a long list of other billionaires that never went or dropped out of college, among well known multi-millionaires, around 20% dropped out or never went.

the problem with that is those people weren't lazy kids that didn't feel like putting any effort into anything, the had a vision and pure determination right from the start. If a kid feels like college is restraining them and they want to get out and reach their true potential (like most of the ones on that list) then by god they probably will be successful.

No, kick his arse. He can make a living, then be bound to some back breaking blue collar job forever. That ain't a life.
It's comments like this, that make me realize that a good bit of people have absolutely no idea what "blue collar" or skilled trade careers actually entail. There's so much ignorance on this topic, it's pitiful.
True. I see this posted and when I look up post history it is usually young kids in college with no idea of how the real world works
all that said, college is GREAT for some and a set back for others. It's not designed for everyone to attend. There are plenty of jobs in the workplace that a motivated worker can thrive in.
For anyone to be successful, it takes drive and hard work.
No college degree guarantees success. Your personal drive and work ethic are what's important
