Uber really is amazing. It's probably my favorite innovation since the smart phone.

Atlanta. We use Uber quite a bit (4-8 times a week), and we've gotten some mediocre cars recently. I don't mind a new Hyundai or Kia, but a 2007 Kia with cloth seats just isn't hanging in there very well.

Question:

Why does it matter? If the car is comfortable/clean and the driver is friendly, why does it matter if it's a 2015 Audi or a 2007 Altima sedan?

Apparently we're dealing with nobility here on the OT

I only use it when I'm going to go have some drinks. I really don't care as long as it's not a complete POS with trash all over the place.

Yep. Just get me from A to B, and we're good.

I would honestly question a driver's financial decision making with a newer vehicle.

No doubt.

When I drive, it's only because I have a decent 2008 4Runner which meets minimum quals, but its certainly not flawless. I exclusively drive drunk college students home from bars, playing with fire in a nice car.

I don't see how it can be only 30 cents an hour. Do the drivers work for free?

Uber is probably the best thing to happen to lower DWIs yet cops hate it. Protect and serve.

There's no hourly pay. You're only paid by your fares, but mathematically, Detroit drivers are basically driving for free.

Even if you manage to get 30 miles of fare every hour, that's only $9/hr. Then there's transaction fees, some goes to uber, gas, and car maintenance, insurance, and the actual payment of a late model car.

I'm not triyng to sell anyone on driving, but you can make a few bucks.

I said in the other thread, I drive on occassion. It's not my job and I only do it if we have nothing else going on. But it's my play money if I do.

After football games or big college weekneds, I drive to and from bars. From 10:00 pm to 2:00 am, I can make $125-$150 on a quarter tank of gas.

After the Clemson game, I made $150 in an hour. Surge was up to 5.3 or something. I literally set my alarm for 1:00 AM, and was home by 2:45

So you get the 30 cents per minute in addition to the 30 cents per mile? If so, that makes more sense.

yeah,

In Columbia, Base fare is $1.10 + .95 per mile + .15 per minute, it differs from City to City

Base fare is like $4.60 for the rider, but thats like $3 for driver or something...

But you make money when the rate is 2x+

An area where there is a lot of student housing around here is about a $11 ride to the bars, so thats about $8 to my pocket and it takes 10 mins or so

keep wondering if my passenger rating affects that at all or if I am just imagining things.

You can check the star number for your passenger rating. LINK

I was talking to a driver a couple of weeks ago about passenger ratings. He said most drivers don't pay attention to or don't care about passenger ratings.

That driver must definitely be new.

If you are a passenger, and your rating is at like 4.6 or below, good luck getting a ride in plenty of instances.
