I have been with my current gf for close to 7 years now and the first four we were together we lived two hours apart.
We saw each other on weekends and that was pretty much it. It was very nice solely because we never fought when we were together because we only saw each other for those couple of days. It’s still nice now that we live 20 minutes away from each other, but we argue about a lot of dumb shite sometimes.

My wife and I did 2 years long distance. We got married and have 3 kids so it was worth it
We did 3 years semi long distance. He went back to school in Galveston and came home on the weekends. Did a couple summers totally apart. Sucked, but we make 9 years this year.

I think when you both know it's temporary it can be doable as long as you can see each other sometimes.

Is it all about love?
Yes. Love. If you are fortunate enough to meet a woman who is truly spectacular and with whom you have a unique, rare chemistry, the heart needs to pursue that relationship even where distance and circumstance intervene. It is arduous, but also feasible with sufficient commitment.
