Looking to get new washer and dryer, and thanks to OT I know about the Speed Queen brand. I'd prefer the top loader, but the wife is adamant she doesn't want an agitator, so we are looking at the front loader.

Just looking for some reassurance on this model as they are significantly more than the big box store brands, and don't have all the fancy features that the wife thinks are necessary to wash clothes. Does this have the normal front loader problems, the smell etc?

We have had an LG top loader for 3 years and no problems, but the dryer id gas and the new house only has an electric hookup, so we negotiated to leave them. I've told the wife they probably would start having problems in the next two years as they are only designed to go 5 years, but since we had no problems she is still leaving towards one of those brands.

Might need to move this to the OT board.

How does she feel about clean clothes? The top loaders without them don't clean well, and you already know a front loader is a bad idea.

I realized last night that my washer and dryer are over 11 years old.

I attribute it to buying a time tested design and brand.

No bullshite electrical or gimmicky features to break.

I just don't get to show them off to the neighbors.

My wife was skeptical about an agitator at first as well. Turns out our SQ top loader holds just as many clothes as the 4.3 cu ft top loaders (which we just replaced) and cleans much better. Not only because of the agitator but how it cycles the water out of the basket.

Front loaders don't clean well and have smell issues...among other things. We've owned one and hated it. We bought the Maytag MVWB765FW top load in March. It's the largest capacity top load washer on the market. It has a small agitator and holds a massive amount of clothing or whatever with 4.7cf of load. You seriously need to consider it.

Her issue with the agitator is when she lived in a lease house, the washer there had an agitator and wrecked clothes and even some towels. I don't know what brand it was.

I wanted a speed queen because I'm hoping it would be the last one we buy. But if the front loader is as much of a pain as others have said, even if it is a speed queen, it won't matter how long it lasts.

Who does laundry more?

If it's you, then tell her to suck it and you get what you want.

If it's her, then tell her to suck it and you know what's best because a college sports website taught you about washing machines.

I had never even heard of SQ and I took the advice of this board. Just do a google search of Speed Queen TD

No issues with the agitator on this one. It's actually a very small agitator. Clothes are super clean, too.

Just bought the 5.3 cu ft top load maytag at Home Depot for $630. $270 off of retail for their Labor Day sale.

Has good reviews and a 10 year, major component warranty

Also, Home Depot extended warranties are cheap and I signed up for a credit card and got 100 bucks off, 12 months no interest

I recently had to buy a new washer/dryer set and from the people I talked to EVERY ONE complained about this. The new 1/3 fill rule is a joke and make sure you get one that has a full fill option!!!!
