Dude we are sending men to mars in like 10 yrs. we are building the rockets now.

Im so proud. My oldest son is working on the project

They've been saying "Mars in 10 years" since the 80s. We have a long way to go before then. First off we will return to the Moon, preferably to start building. Next we'd have to send a crew to orbit Mars as they did the Moon, maybe landing on Phobos in the process. Then the Mars landing mission would be feasible. I think it's realistically another 20 years away.

Have you seen how many stupid/ignorant people there are just in America? I'm surprised we have made it this far. We have too much dead weight. I think a rock will come down and destroy us before we get the chance to leave.

The first mission will be a non manned test run to the moon

That mission better be manned, or I'm going to flip my shite that they sent a fully functional ship to the Moon with no one on it. An unmanned mission to Mars is a possibility, but on a two week trip, this better not be in the cards.

A moon base is out of the question, we've been warned to stay away from mining operations up there. Phobos is hollow and is possibly inhabited

I'm not saying we stay at Phobos. We just land for a few hours, take some samples, and then go back to the main craft. No different than the Moon Landing, aside from it being actually easier to pull off.

NASA is developing the capabilities needed to send humans to an asteroid by 2025 and Mars in the 2030s – goals outlined in the bipartisan NASA Authorization Act of 2010 and in the U.S. National Space PolicY

First off that was 2010 when NASA's budget has been cut back even more.

Secondly, that is still in my 20 year timeline. I'm betting the year will be 2039 when we land on Mars.

Congrats, but paying your son and actually going to Mars are two completely different goals.

You're right though that it's basically a jobs program.

True but they are building the rockets.
Also the astronauts visit the plant periodicaly and talk to the employees and tell them to do a good job cuz "my life depends on it"

I go between insanely jealous that I won't be alive when we reach this point and glad that we haven't made it to that point yet. Under my assumption that there's not only life outside of earth, but entire civilizations, I worry that we're probably a ways behind many of them and what that could mean to our species.

Still though, imagine being able to travel through space and the visuals that would entail.

I would guess time travel - maybe in 3 centuries -once humans can travel than the speed of light.
