Well, the FBI takes its orders from this administration, so what do you think?

You don't know what specific words the FBI said to the father. It could be that they checked him out and told the father he hasn't committed a crime which the father then translated into "FBI says my boy ain't a terrorist"

I'm pretty sure the FBI cannot arrest a man because they "think" he might commit a crime.

What are you supposed to do to a US citizen you suspect will commit a crime?

Do you want to live in a country that assigns agents to every US citizen they suspect may do something bad?

Do you want the NSA to track purchases and cell phone/email convos without court orders? because I'm pretty sure I already understand tOT's thoughts on this already.

So, Muslim, immigrant father from Afghanistan reports his Muslim immigrant SON to the FBI out of concern he's become radicalized and might commit acts of terrorism. He turned in his own SON? Sounds like he's one Muslim immigrant who puts the USA first. Good.

Now our FBI investigates? What did they do, who did they talk to? How did they reach their conclusion that he was not a threat?

Like someone else said - I can't imagine the volume of people they go through. But they need to be better.

What's the solution though? How should the gov't intervene in situations like this?

The FBI is in a bad spot in situations like this.

Increased surveillance. Maybe a sting operation. The law prevents them from locking the wacko up for very long though so you have a point.

A dad turns his own son in and the Comey led fbi can find any terrorist link?

THEN he travels to Afghanistan and still no flags raised? Then his wife hauls arse back to Pakistan.

Exactly WTF does it take for their to be red flags?

I guess the fbi didn't see intent

Didn't the FBI clear the guy who shot up the Florida gay bar too?

Yep. Twice

And we even trust them to investigate presidential candidates and government corruption

Well, if you are looking for ways to clear someone, you will find them. If you want to find ways to hold someone that's questionable, you will find a way. Guess which way they are approaching it.
